Vera Drew is a filmmaker, Emmy-nominated editor, and the star of her upcoming movie, “The People’s Joker.” She’s also a fellow podcaster, known for her acclaimed shows, “Welcome to Jackass”, and “Hot Topics with Vera Drew.” It’s my honor to have her on the show to discuss “The People’s Joker” as well as her editing and directing work on Tim Heidecker’s most recent comedy special (“An Evening with Tim Heidecker” on Youtube), as well as on so many other Abso Lutely produced projects. If you’re a fan of that company like I am, then Vera has helped to make you laugh many times. We talk about the importance of “flawed representation,” why some friendships start out with both parties being nervous about each other, and why Jackass is more emotionally complex than you remember it being.

Writer/Comedian Joey Clift joins the show to talk about eating lasagna like Garfield, Mr. Beast’s new restaurant, and a wild sounding script which earned Joey recognition from The Indigenous List. (The Indigenous List is created by The Black List, Sundance institute, and Illuminatives which spotlights some of the best Indigenous film and television writers living and working within the U.S)  But mainly, we talk about Garfield the character and Joey explains to me, a Garfield skeptic, why this cool cat has hung in there (baby) for so long. Speaking of surviving, we discuss hypothetical battles between Garfield and Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees for… some reason.

 

#StolenFromTwitter this week uses “Me at the beginning of 2020 - Me at the end of 2020” as our discussion prompt. Michael talks about living less fearfully and Joey talks about how 2020 was a successful year for him and the guilt that comes with that.

 

DUNKFEST this week happens out of nowhere. Joey asks me if I’ve heard of Nathen Mazri’s new venture. Mazri was well-known as the proprietor and promoter of a Garfield-based (pick-up and delivery only) restaurant. His restaurant has recently closed and a few weeks later, he announced a food line with a new licensed character: SCOOBY DOO. Michael and Joey take a while to process this news and do not hold back!

Nikki and Tadd Good (First Time? Podcast) join us for a SURPRISE Holiday episode of ITPNT. This is a very special last episode of the year since Nikki and Tadd both are a huge part of why I started this podcast. Tadd is the host of the “First Time?” podcast where he and a guest try something for the first time. We talk about having to work not-at-home, create a Christmas Tree of Holiday episodes of TV shows, and in a tribute to First Time? we all try the infamous Fruitcake for the first time!
