He unloads: “You’re nothing but a prostitute. No, I take that back. You’re worse than a prostitute. A prostitute gets paid to sleep with strangers. You, on the other hand…you do it for free. Even worse, you’re the one paying for the sleazy service.” A little later in the one-sided conversation, God continues: “You’re as bad as Sodom. No, you’re worse than Sodom. As a matter of fact, you are so much worse that you make Sodom look good.” Heart wrenching. Pitiful. Disgusting.

Life is hard work because of Satan’s corruption of man. Effort is required to obtain desirable results, part of the judgement of God for that sin. Paul writes in Romans 12:1-2 that we are to be transformed away from this world to demonstrate to the world that the will of God is perfect. Would you say that Paul was stating “just give it a good enough effort to present your bodies a living sacrifice?” He states with great emotion, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God…” He is pleading with us to “give it all we got!” As Christians we committed to doing our best in living by God’s will when we were baptized into His body (Romans 6:4-7, 1 John 3:1-3). Anything less than our best effort produces the result the effort deserves (Matthew 7:22-23 & Revelation 3:14-22).
