James describes how the Christian should await the Lord's return.  In his day, persecution was rife, so his words about waiting are given in the face of suffering.  How should we suffer as we wait?

James, Paul, Jesus, and the writers of the Proverbs all provide warnings about how we procure and handle wealth, ultimately challenging where our treasure is.  What is your relationship with money?  Is your treasure the things of God?

There is God's way, then there is man's way.  Which way will you choose?

It isn't that we at war against the world as much as we are at war against the world at work within ourselves.  The flesh and spirit are contrary. God's ways and the world's ways are not the same, and this can create great tension within us. 

In this section, James compares and contrasts the outworkings of the wisdom of the world and wisdom that comes from God.  Which kind of wisdom is being exhibited in your life?

Words heal and words destroy. Any of us can be caught bringing hope in one instance and utter destruction the next. We need God's helping in taming the tongue.

We can say we have faith or we can show that we have faith.  James makes the argument that our faith is validated and shown true through our actions.

The Christian faith demands that we treat people differently than the world does, but, in fact, treating people the same.  A legitimate faith will keep up from favoritism.
