Former President, Jacob Zuma, has filed papers in court, launching a private prosecution against journalist Karyn Maughan and State Advocate Billy Downer. Zuma claims Downer and Maughan disclosed information that wasn't meant for the public. His lawyers accuse the two of breaching the National Prosecuting Authority Act. Yesterday (Monday), the KZN Education Department decided to close a Durban high school indefinitely after pupils torched several classrooms in retaliation for their cell phones being confiscated. Menzi Busani, principal of Ndengetho High School which is situated in Kwandengezi township in Outer West of Durban, says that the school’s code of conduct prohibited carrying of cell phones in school premises. However, due to the prevalence of cell phones the school has become lenient. Last week scores of disgruntled unemployed social workers and some self-funded graduates marched to the Union Buildings demanding equal employment opportunities. The presented their memorandum and gave the Presidency 72 ours in which to assess and address their concerns. According to the Council for Social Practitioners, there’s an approximately 9 000 unemployed graduate social work graduates in the country. These officials had not reported their councillor work as other renumerative work to their provincial or national headquarters. Basically the point we are making is how almost all the political parties are talking about strengthening themselves and members wanting to climb the leadership ladder. In all of these statements, very little is said about building the country and caring for citizens.
