Focus: Three months ago, the National Director of Public

Prosecutions announced that her office would decide whether it will prosecute the Cradock Four deaths. Until today, the affected families of the deaths have not been contacted despite the Minister of Justice responding to a written parliamentary question on the interventions being made to improve communications with the families.

Government has resolved to monitor and scrutinise municipalities to ensure service delivery. President Cyril Ramaphosa has outlined several measures that will be put in place to ensure greater transparency and accountability in local authorities. He was addressing the South African Human Rights Commission's National Conference on Local Governance. The conference is aimed at addressing several systemic challenges in the local sphere of governance which hinder the attainment and enjoyment of human rights. Today, we thought to speak to the Human Rights Commission about their efforts in trying to help and also parliament which is this week running a Local Government Week in Cape Town where all the stakeholders have gathered….

This morning as part of marking 45 years since the brutal death of Steve Biko in police custody, the Azanian People’s Organisation is gathering at the Walmer Police Station in Gqeberha. This is the cell where Biko was detained in. Some of his friends and family will be there in the next hour (11:00) where they say they will be having a conversation with Biko. To talk more on why they chose to visit the cell and how they believe we should keep Biko’s memory alive,

The SABC and the Matjhabeng Local Municipality are today (Monday) signing a Memorandum of Understanding which they say will is to formalise relations in realising their mandates of fostering social cohesion and bridging the developmental divide through corporative efforts. The municipality is doping this in an effort of turning their economic situation around by attracting investment to their mining town.  It's official, Dr. Nkosana Dlamini-Zuma is running to become President of the African National Congress. Her second bid at the top spot comes at a time where the President has taken a knock in confidence as he addresses the Phala Phala matter. The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs was approached by branches to stand for the top position. It will not be an easy journey as she will be contesting Lindiwe Sisulu for the endorsement of the ANC Women's League.

The KZN Education Department says that the Greytown pupil who was suspended because he refused to shave off his beard would return to school today (Friday), The department intervened and had directed the school to reverse the suspension and allow the learner to return. Earlier this year, a Gauteng private Christian school refused an isiZulu-speaking learner from attending school while wearing a traditional ceremonial goat-skin bracelet called an isiphandla. In a country as diverse as ours, why do we still see such incidents in the media? One would assume that with the kind of history we come from, such incidents won’t occur in our schools. To look at this further and what it does for diversity and respect of religious and cultural rights,
