This morning, we speak to Mlungisi Mabaso who has been suspended by the Auditor General Tsakani Maluleke. Mabaso was suspended allegedly after threatening to expose corruption against Maluleke. She alleges that in a meeting with Mabaso, he wanted a mutual separation in the form of a financial settlement in exchange for him not exposing the allegations to the public. Meanwhile, the EFF has praised aluleke after she was leared of the allegations of corruption against her.

The truck driver involved in the N2 Phongolo vehicle crash that claimed the lives of 21 people has been arrested. It’s alleged the driver collided head on with a vehicle that was ferrying learners from local schools. In a video circulating on social media the truck is seen speeding excessively, overtaking on a double barrier line. Nineteen of the people who died were children who were being transported home from school. This has drawn the attention to how reckless truck drivers can be on the road. So we thought to speak to the Transport Department to get their perspective on the issue of track drivers and the conditions they are working under.

Since their debut in 1994, their records have sold more than a half million copies while their hits, including "Thalakele," sold more than 40,000 copies. Focus: The National Lotteries Commission are in hot water following the release of their 2020/21 annual report. Whilst the report was meant to be released last year, the delay stemmed from material misstatements on their books. The Auditor-General did an audit report and it resulted in a qualified opinion, raising concerns surrounding the R23-million in irregular expenditure and R36-million in accounting errors. The Auditor General does not ordinarily audit the grant beneficiaries after they have received the funding. However, most of the illicit activities in the NLC’s books were found in transactions

Earlier this week, one of our callers came on the openline to share the story of pupils who walked up to 14 kilometres to school in Matatiele. In June 2022, the Minister of Basic Education had addressed parliamentary questions surrounding the challenges being faced in accommodating all eligible learners on the scholar transport system. This year, over 24 000 eligible learners had not been accommodated in the scholar transport programme in the province.
