In the past three years, the Special Tribunal has recovered over R9 billion in public funds that were lost through corruption. Whilst it has issued grant orders to government departments, state-owned entities and individuals, there is less focus on the private sector and the role it has played in corruption in the country, particularly after the Zondo Commission. The biggest challenge facing the institution is that litigants implicated in corruption have challenged the Judiciary on whether the Special Tribunal is a court of law despite having Judge Makhanya presiding the institution. In the last 24 hours, we have seen reports of the British government banning corporates found to be implicated in corruption from doing business with the state for a minimum of three years. 

question is simple: Does the Special Tribunal have the capacity to recover public funds from these private sector institutions?

Trust in nearly all institutions is low and political parties are no exceptions, particularly as corruption plagues democracies the worldover. Corruption and political financing have come under the spotlight where key questions need to be asked on how political parties are being funded.

As much as the Political Party Funding Act (PPFA) makes political parties disclose private donations, it does not speak to how they accumulate their public funding. Public funding does not come through the Independent Electoral Commission, mainly Parliament and the provincial legislatures. The PPFA only speaks to the small amount going to political parties.

Osteoporosis causes bones to become weak and brittle. In some instances, bones become so brittle that a fall or even mild stresses such as bending over or coughing can cause a fracture. Osteoporosis-related fractures occur in the hip, wrist, or spine. There typically are no symptoms in the early stages of bone loss. Women are much more likely to develop osteoporosis than men.

While no cure exists for osteoporosis, care providers can prescribe treatment to prevent the illness from progressing further including dietary supplements, healthy lifestyle choices, or prescription medication.

Our guest this morning is raising his concerns about how the Minister of Police Bheki Cele is deviating the attention from the fact that eight women were raped in the mine dump crime that took place over the weekend. Yesterday (Tuesday), Cele led a large police crew in raiding illegal immigrants at the Krugersdorp mine dump saying that they will be concentrating on all illegal mining operations. Our guest is worried that the entire operations is now shifting from the horrific rape of young women, to chasing after Zama Zamas. To share some of his thoughts on this issue,
