Last week, social media was abuzz with a sense of discontent after we were slapped with another fuel hike and news that inflation was making the cost of living harder. Amidst this discussion, a hashtag emerged called #NationalShutdown - a protest set to take place across the country on Friday, 10 June. In the past week, several organizations have been called upon to endorse the March: from the EFF, SANTACO and COSATU. However, this momentum has decipated with these institutions distancing themselves as organizers. What does this trend tell us about our collective agency? With all the socio-economic challenges we face, are we on a collision course towards another #JulyRiots? What will be the straw the breaks the camel's neck for us to take action and hold this government accountable?
