Auditor-General Kimi Makwetu has described as disappointing the audit outcomes of about 432 national and provincial government departments as well as state-owned enterprises. He says this figure might be higher as they could not audit contracts worth two-point-three-three-billion-rand due to missing or incomplete information. Makwetu says irregular expenditure in government departments and state-owned enterprises has increased from 51-billion-rand reported last year to 62-point-six-zero-billion-rand reported this year. This has had a direct and negative impact on the country, especially the people and the economy. However, workers at these state owned enterprises have been subject to much stress due to the additional demands to their work and ongoing insecurity.
