Should South Africa consider taxing its wealthy citizens to bridge the income gap between the rich and the poor? The number of young South Africans under the age of 20, who have registered to participate in Wednesday's general election has declined to the lowest level since at least 1999, this according to data from the Independent Electoral Commission, IEC. Are South Africans just not interested in voting? Many have said that they just don't see any point in voting and that they also don't see a vote as a powerful instrument of democracy.

National police Commissioner General Khehla Sithole is expected to visit Vuwani in Limpopo this morning. This follows threats by the pro-Makhado Task team in Vuwani that there will be no elections taking place in Vuwani. Community members will shut down the area tomorrow where they will have a mass meeting to pave a way forward on whether they will participate in Wednesday election or not. They are demanding that their area should be reincorporated into Makhado from the Collins Chabane local municipality.
