Leftists, Rightists, Communists, Socialists, Capitalists. You have all heard about these different political ideologies. This morning we will explore the leftist ideology in South Africa and examine whether this ideology is credible and appealing. The term Left, in politics, is the portion of the political spectrum associated in general with the doctrine that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities. So should South Africa relook its leftists political alignment, this as we see a rise in right-wing politics all across the world? Such a rise is evident with the election victory of far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro, in Brazil. Additionally, far-right parties made the most significant gains in Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakia, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Estonia, winning 5 percent more in vote shares. U.S Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, noted for its anti-establishment and anti-illegal immigration rhetoric, was characterized as that of a right-wing populist. Leftist political figure Hillary Clinton was left dumbfounded by her 2016 election defeat at the hands of Trump.
