South Africans celebrate Freedom Day on April 27 every year to mark the country's first democratic elections in 1994. A quarter of a century later, though, questions remain: how much and whose freedom is to be celebrated?

Swimming pools are expensive to build and maintain, and swimming classes can be expensive for black parents in townships. Over 50 people lost their lives in the KZN floods. Former leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Tony Leon Is back on the campaign trail for the party. Tony Leon led the DA from its inception in 2000 until 2007. On Tuesday former President Thabo Mbeki announced that he will be campaigning for the ANC stating that people should vote for the ANC because it had changed course. From the mushrooming of dubious churches in our inner cities, to charlatan religious leaders that prey on their unsuspecting congregant and charismatic churches that claim to have powers to heal the sick and people with disabilities. We will also explore whether our current laws are inadequate to deal with negative developments within religious circles. This morning we are in conversation with two religious bodies/organizations, for their suggestions on standards which could be set and mechanisms for screening both credentials and religious doctrines.

Electoral systems need urgent reform and South Africa is no exception, this according to Professor Roger Southall, Professor of Sociology, at University of the Witwatersrand. Professor Southall says the Brexit crisis has raised fundamental questions about the country's democracy and whether the two-party system is now dead on its feet. He says this question is pertinent in the UK, as well as for other countries, including South Africa where voters will go to the polls on the 8th of May.

The Christian Judicial Council International will this May launch Councils in every country and nation of the world to discuss challenges facing churches and how to formalize the sector. The drive starts from Limpopo to Cape Town. The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Commission) has for years has been investigating the commercialization of churches after outcries of abuse in the sector, outrage over the conduct of some church leaders and has called for stricter religious regulation amid the rise of dubious institutions.
