For years the Catholic Church has been plagued by sexual abuse scandals, which have tarnished its reputation. Yesterday Pope Francis handed the world's top Catholic bishops guidelines to shape the debate at a landmark Vatican summit on tackling clerical sex abuse. Yesterday Roman Catholic bishops representing almost 150 countries met at the Vatican to discuss their response to the sexual abuse of children by members of the clergy. The summit is been convened by Pope Francis and aims to educate the top bishops who will then return home with clear ideas on how to spot and deal with abuse and paedophilia. It also aims to tackle the continuing sexual abuse scandal, which again hit the Church in 2018 in countries across the globe, including Chile, Germany and the United States. Why has it taken the church so long to get this right?

South Africa has a long history of student protests dating to the anti-Apartheid marches that predated South Africa's democracy. Since 1994, when democracy was established, South African students have had their own struggles. In recent years, there has been a wave of student protests action. The 2015 protests by UCT's students was a historic moment, were University of Cape Town's students protested for the removal of Cecil John Rhodes' statue. That same year saw the birth of #FeesMustFall, the student-led protest movement that began in mid-October 2015 in South Africa. The competition was launched in 1972 as a platform to empower and create exposure for the country's brightest young minds. The Competition calls on tertiary students across South Africa to put themselves in the shoes of the Minister of Finance by submitting their interpretation of the budget speech and come up with innovative and solution-oriented ideas to address key national challenges. The process culminates subsequent to the reading of the National Budget Speech by the Minister of Finance on 20 February 2019 at a Gala Dinner hosted by both Nedbank and Old Mutual and attended by the Minister of Finance.
