Olympic 800 meters champion Caster Semenya is heading to the Court of Arbitration for Sport today to challenge proposed rules that would force her to lower her testosterone levels. The South African government has said the rules proposed by track and field's governing body, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), specifically target Semenya and has called them a "gross violation" of her human rights. The controversial rules would force so-called "hyperandrogenic" athletes or those with "differences of sexual development" (DSD) to take drugs to lower testosterone levels below a prescribed amount if they wish to compete.

Trade union Solidarity says the current strike by trade union, AMCU, is partly to blame for possible job cuts at Sibanye-Stillwater's gold operations. This after Sibanye Stillwater announced that more than six-thousand jobs are at risk of being cut at two of its gold mines - Shafts, in Beatrix in the Free State and Driefontein, west of Johannesburg. The mine says this is due to operational and financial risks. Meanwhile, workers affiliated to AMCU are striking for a third month for better pay.

Kiel University in Germany has recently reportedly banned full-face coverings in classrooms, citing the need for open communication that includes facial expressions and gestures. Many countries across Europe have wrestled with the issue of the Muslim veil - in various forms such as the body-covering burka and the niqab. The debate has taken in religious freedom, female equality, secular traditions and even fears of terrorism. This morning we understand the different coverings worn by Muslim women, the significance of the coverings and why the wearing of these coverings, have, in some societies, particularly Europe, had been challenged?

The World Bank Group is a unique global partnership: five institutions working for sustainable solutions that reduce poverty and build shared prosperity in developing countries. Prof Mills Soko of International Business and Strategy at Wits Business School says the World Bank has an important role to play in the developing world and that it could do much more if the US relaxed its grip on the institution. He and Mzukisi Qbo further talk about the need to redefine its role, and that failure to adapt to the changing world order could see rising powers going their own way.

A free society is an armed society, this according to Martin van Staden, a legal researcher at the Free Market Foundation. His comments follow government's intentions to introduce legislation that will remove self-defence as a valid reason for acquiring a firearm licence. Martin van Staden says this move by government would be a dream come true for the many violent criminals who roam our streets who have never cared about what the law says, and a complete betrayal of law-abiding citizens who would be left defenseless. The SACP's first deputy general secretary Solly Mapaila has reportedly said PAC founder Robert Sobukwe was treated well by Apartheid government as compared to ANC prisoners who were "treated like slaves". Mapaila is said to have made the comments at a dialogue celebrating the Rivonia Triallists at Liliesleaf Farm, in Sandton, this week. The PAC has since dismissed Mapaila's claims and questioned the motives of what they term unwarranted attacks on the party.

So yesterday we spoke to the chairperson of the Sekunjalo Group, Dr Iqbal Survé, who vehemently dismissed reports by the Sunday Times newspaper that he colluded with some Ayo board members to secure an investment from the Public Investment Corporation, to secure a R4.3 billion investment in the IT Company. During the interview Dr Surve claimed the reports were aimed at tarnishing his name and also asked us to Invite Sam Sole, a Journalist and managing partner of the amaBhungane Centre for Investigative Journalism, who has written extensively on this matter, to question him about whether he was part of the list of Stratcom Journalist on the payroll of the Apartheid government.

Dr Sam Ramsamy was also the chair of the South African Non-Racial Olympic Committee, which was responsible for Isolating Apartheid sport from International participation.
