Back in 2015 the Rev Ecclesia De Lange expressed a deep disappointment at the Constitutional Court's decision to dismiss her appeal over her axing from the Methodist Church. The Court’s Dismissal was over an arbitration agreement with the Methodist Church of Southern Africa. She was suspended from the church and discontinued as an active minister in 2010, for breaching church’s policy, after announcing her intended marriage to her same-sex partner. She has recently withdrawn her litigation process with regards to her suspension, and joins us now to unpack her reasons why, the journey with the case thus far, what implications this withdrawal has on the LGBTI community and fair treatment as it relates to positions for them within the church. The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) on Thursday released a scathing report on the government's failure to address inequality and poverty. The organization’s Equality Report for 2017-2018 evaluated the government’s programme of radical socio-economic transformation from a rights-based perspective. Are we becoming more of an unequal society? What role is government’s intervention playing in the inequality? We unpack the findings of the report with Professor Ben Turok.
