It's hard to pinpoint who exactly is responsible for the problems ailing India's telecom sector. Is it the government that sees every player as a cash cow that must be milked dry at regular intervals instead of being allowed to invest in its own network? Or is it the telecoms themselves who have sought to charge exorbitant prices for poor quality and quantity of service? Or is it both? It's probably both. Also, a critical Diwali for Indian eCommerce, India's renewable energy situation, and the evergreen American Subprime lending industry!

The promotion of Dr. Urjit Patel to the post of RBI Governor is likely to have left a lot of people scratching their heads, as by all accounts, the government hasn't replaced Rajan with someone more expansive and optimistic, but instead, with another inflation 'hawk', which probably means that the powers-that-be did indeed think that the outgoing governor was too much of a Rockstar! Also, the Olympics end in one big wet party, torrents get dangerous, and start-ups' woes continue!

21-year old Pusarla Venkata 'PV' Sindhu will take on the World No. 1 Carolina Marin today in the final of the Badminton Women's singles, and unlike on every other occasion involving an Indian at these games, she will do it knowing that in the hearts and minds of her compatriots, she has already won! But please, please get that Gold! :D Also, certain sections of the public hound Amnesty International while they should really be protesting against the Art of Living, the BJP goes all corporate, and footballing action from Spain and England begins tonight and not tomorrow (FYI) 

Sakshi Malik from Haryana has won the Bronze medal in the Women's freestyle 58kg wrestling with an epic comeback and no small measure of resilience, and so, after all the histrionics and finger-pointing, India is finally off it's duck! Would it be too greedy to wish for another now? :) Also, Intel gets into consumer tech, Indian startups get in shape for the bouts to come, and Azim Premji's Wipro turns 50!

PV Sindhu has heroically made it to the semi-final round of the Badminton Singles at Rio 2016 and now invariably carries the capricious hopes and insincere dreams of 1.3 billion people on her shoulders, and so perhaps it would be best if for just this once, in the interest of fairness, we carry our own hopes and dreams, and will her to just go ahead and win it for herself! Also, Sri Lanka go in for the kill, the Tata's head into infrastructure, and the Indian government decides to take a leaf out of Pakistan's book! 

India owes an enormous and wholehearted apology to her athletes in Rio because not only do we not care about the uncountable and untold hardships they have to endure to get to compete at the international level, but we also began branding them as failures on Day 3 of a 16 day event, which ultimately led to no selfies, no confidence, no acknowledgements of battling displays, and also to the small matter of a 23-year old pioneer risking it all for the country and punching well above her weight only to later apologize to the 1.3 couch-potatoes sitting at home for 'letting them down'.  Also, Modi is out of ideas and that's a good thing, and Baba Ramdev equates our forefathers' fight for freedom to whatever it is he does to peddle unverified products...

The Monsoon session of Parliament comes to an end today, and the legislators have sufficient cause to be quite pleased with themselves, for in the space of 20 days, they've ably demonstrated the true power of Democracy in India! Unfortunately, due to political and electoral considerations, we're unlikely to see such a fine display again for a while... Also, a big ranch is for sale, there's apathy on the capital's streets, and all kinds of sports threaten to explode into our living rooms!

Over the years, the world has become desensitized to the unending attacks, suicide bombings and other atrocities that keep taking place at regular intervals in the middle-east and especially in Iraq, but an unspeakably tragic incident has now taken place seemingly by accident, and the victims were the most innocent of innocents. How much longer can we stand by as our fellow human-beings suffer? Also, Saina Nehwal's time arrives, and a dream materializes after almost 28 years.  

Raghuram Rajan's final policy statement as RBI governor was never likely to contain many fireworks, partially because we knew he wasn't going to cut any rates, and also because of his own understated and deft style, but say what you will about the Government's handling of a remarkable intellect, the question deserves to be asked as to whether Rajan himself is guilty of being driven away too easily from his own country and work without adequately putting forth his case. Also, the scrap business comes to India, China's takes trains to another level, and things start looking a little better for team India at the Olympics!

The terrible attack on the Hospital in Pakistan's Quetta yesterday is about as diabolical as it gets, and the Indian Government's strong-arm approach in Kashmir over the last month is also not worthy of the founding principles of this country, and so it's probably about time that both Governments got their acts together and started handling their respective problems so that the peoples' suffering can end. Also, the Prime Minister nods one final time in Raghuram Rajan's direction, GoJavas and MuSigma potentially put themselves up for sale, and India's hopes at the Olympics begin to falter (though with one wonderful exception!)
