Yesterday was All Saints Day - and the school celebrated Holy Eucharist at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tappahannock, Virginia

As an Episcopal school, the very soul of the St. Margaret’s community is found in the Episcopal Church from which our school motto rises - “As you grow in age, may you grow in grace.”

In honor of All Saints Day, we share the music of our chorus and words from Reverend Johnson.

At St. Margaret's, these singular events are important to us. The Daily Thistle would like to thank the faculty, families, friends, and the student body for supporting our seniors in their last game in the gym we know so well.

This weekend we will welcome members class of 1961 who will be celebrating their 60th reunion.   many are staying in a house, and students and faculty are invited to welcome this amazing class back to the campus of their youth.

Next week the daily thistle will be sharing a series of interviews with members of the class of 1961, so be sure to tune in to our program.

Last night both our JV and varsity volleyball teams were in action hosting Steward school from Richmond Virginia.

The JV team won 2-1 in a very exciting campaign to their victory. The Varsity also won 3-2.

Today we continue the story of St. Margaret’s School as we celebrate our Centennial year.

In the midst of all of the loss of headmistress, Mrs. Craighill in 1947, St. Margaret's was still growing. 

Anderton House was purchased from the Andertons in 1947 for use as a dormitory. The original structure was built around 1760, about the same time as Brockenbrough House. Originally, the building served as a "prize house" for tobacco. A southern wing was added on to the house in the 1890s.

Last night members of the St. John’s Congregation and their pets, joined the girls on the river patio behind Latané.  Compline became a blessing of the pets.

Virginia Ferguson was there, and we would like to share some sounds in the blessing of the pets.

We visit Ms. Jessie Rice, or Dr. Rice of Lexington, KY.  She was a 1982 graduate of St. Margaret's School and attended SMS with her sister.

When Miss Latane resigned in 1943, the school tapped Rebecca Reinhardt Craighill to act as Headmistress. While her tenure would be short, the contributions that she made to the traditions of St. Margaret's are still felt today. A faculty member at St. Catherine's in Richmond, Mrs. Craighill moved to Tappahannock with her three children, having been widowed six years earlier. Among her contributions are the creation of the school seal (1946), the Current yearbook (1945) the school's newspaper (1945) and the official class ring (1946), still worn by students today.

Today St. Margaret’s is enjoying a day off from classes following a successful Fall Family Weekend that found the school open to school events for the first time since COVID began.
