February 24, 2020Avoiding the Ikea EffectIf you place a higher value on things you make, as opposed to a pre-made purchased version of the same thing, you may be susceptible to the Ikea effect. A cognitive bias which makes us feel things WE have a hand in, are better than similar alternatives. Fair enough if you're a do-it-yourselfer. But if you're designing solutions to problems that you hope people will buy, you must explore ideas other than the ones you came up with. This is the design world's version of the ikea effect, but it's called "design fixation". Avoid it at all costs. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information....more1minPlay

February 21, 2020Throw a Curve Ball into Your CommunicationsYour style of communications may work brilliantly - until it doesn't work. Because, well, it's your style of communications, and like any style, it becomes predictable. And what happens when we see or hear predictable? We stop paying attention. Our "communications comfort zone" becomes so comfortable, that it starts to blend in. So, change it up. Throw a curve ball into your communications. Haul someone aside for a person to person, if you usually use text messaging. Write a 10 word email instead of multi-paragraphs. And how about calling someone rather than either of the above. Throw a curve-ball into your communications. Catch your audience off-guard. You'll regain their attention. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information....more1minPlay
February 20, 2020All Eyes Must Know the PrizeAs a business educator, entrepreneur, parent, and pretty much all round old guy (ie: one who should know better) I was recently scolded for not communicating my vision.
