Over the weekend I had to run the clock for the High School Football playoffs. Since it was my first time, I was a little nervous. The white hat (referee) told me to do add three minutes after the ten-minute halftime.  As halftime expired I noticed both teams were ready to play and the officials were ready to officiate. Yet, the referee told me to add three minutes to the end of the ten-minutes. I ignored my instinct (reading the room) and added three minutes. The referee waved his hands and furiously shook his head so I put ten minutes up for the third quarter to start.  I read the room which contradicted what I was told. When faced with this type of situation, always lean towards doing what you were told.  Even when the room screams otherwise.
