Episode Description:
In this episode of The Daryl Perry Podcast, I’m talking about something that holds a lot of us back — living for other people. Whether you’re chasing validation, trying to prove someone wrong, or doing things because it’s what’s always been expected of you, I want you to take a step back and ask yourself: who are you really living for?
We start by talking about the importance of acknowledging that this pattern exists in the first place. It’s not about beating yourself up. It’s about observing your behaviors with curiosity instead of criticism. I share how many of these patterns often begin in early relationships and how they tend to trickle down into the way we show up in life and relationships today.
Once you start to see the origin of this, you can begin identifying what you’ve been chasing and ask the big question — is this something I can give myself? And if not, am I asking the right people for it?
We also talk about how tough it can be to redefine or walk away from certain relationships when your identity has been wrapped up in being a people-pleaser. There’s a grieving process that comes with letting go of the roles you’ve played for so long. But this also opens up space for living more authentically.
I dig into why boundaries matter, how they’re really for you, and how they help you reinforce a stronger relationship with yourself. I also touch on the importance of therapy and how it can help you unpack the deeper emotional layers of this process.
The journey to stop living for others and start living from the inside out is a long one, but it’s worth it. It’s about breaking patterns, finding clarity, setting boundaries, and reinforcing a new mindset — over and over again.
