Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,

 

Having your eyes enlightened - Do you trust the greater expectations in your inner man.

 

I think most men know they are called to greater works, higher expectations and are capable of more then they are currently striving for.

 

Hope- el pise - his expectations for you. 

 

 

and this is our inheritance. Someone has to die for someone to get the inheritance. That someone was Jesus, and now we inherit the greater works and the power to achieve the greater works he has called us to.

 

 

Lets look at 

Ephesians 2:10

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

 

prepared - set them in your appointment book (which is your life)

 

And we walk in them… there is no striving, we just simply walk in that which he has prepared for us. 

 

We are called to greater things.

We must trust God to go for those greater works.

Be willing to trust his provision and move in the power he has provided for us.

 

Don’t miss the beauty of the first Rocky movie, it was not that he could win or might win- it was that he at least got a shot at the title AND HE TOOK IT! 

God has a title out there for you to go after. 

It’s not losing that is the tragedy… its choosing not to take the risk with the opportunities given. 

 

Go for it today. Make the necessary sacrifices to go for it all…. all that God has for you!

What is so powerful about hope?

 

Hope is not wishing.

Hope is not betting.

Hope is not waiting.

Hope is expecting God to show up!

 

I like to think of Hope as being second in line. Your not last, because there is no hope in that. You are not first because it is almost over. you are second.

Ever remember being in line for a roller coaster? You may have waited 3 hours, but as the line gets shorter and you get closer your expectations rise, the excitement grows and the fun of the moment is increased. You start talking a little faster to your friends….”I heard someone died on this last year… sweet, this is going to be so awesome”. 

 

This is Gods hope. You know you are next. 

Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

 

Joy you know you are next

Peace you know good is coming.

Abound in hope - have this expectation in all things! 

 

What a life- to always expect joy and peace in all areas of your life! That is hope! 

 

People with hope live longer, have better attitudes, adjust better to life and have healthier relationships… and why shouldn’t they- they have peace and joy in all things… that’s hope! 

 

What is the opposite of hope? Despair… the thought of what will go wrong next… If you think that way you are admitting that you do not believe God and your prayers have any power.

 

The hope mindset is simply this:

I expect great things in this situation. And even if they do not go as I had planned I know God is still using it to my advantage, I am still learning from it and I will get stronger from it. My hope is in thee o lord. 

 

If you suffer loss, hope says “great now we have room for something better!”

 

Today regardless of what you are facing, remember you are next in line. You serve a God of hope!

Ever hear the quote “some people talk to much and say to little?” Well today I am hoping to do the opposite. I am going to say very little and hopefully say a lot. 

 

 

 

Thanks for all the positive feedback from yesterdays podcast… I knew you might get a chuckle out of it, but did not realize it would resonate so much with so many of you. I guess when you put Jesus in our shoes it does show us just how poor our attitudes can be sometime. 

 

 

So today I am going to focus in on applying the verse in Proverbs 19: 20 Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.

WWJD-IHWY

While most know the WWJD movement as a recent development, the wording has been around for more than 100 years as Charles M. Sheldon, a Topeka minister and evangelical Christian writer, used it in his 1897 novel, "In His Steps: What Would Jesus Do?"

 

 

 

 

 

1 Peter 2:21 To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

 

Matthew 5:48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

 

Eph. 5:1 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children.

 

So yes we are to try to live like Jesus- try to live a WWJD lifestyle. But today being Monday… I want to put some legs on this thing. 

 

Lets get practical… 

could you really see Jesus take on the actions of men today in society, family, marriage, work and church? 

 

Could you see Jesus refusing to stop for directions due to pride? Look I know he knows all, so HE wouldn’t have to stop, but if we play this out… he is in the car with his wife and he refuses to get directions… with an attitude.

 

Or would Jesus go to work and try to posture himself in front of the right people to make Bob look bad and make him look good? Could you see Jesus saying “Well, I like Bob he is a great guy, but I am just not sure he is ready to take on the new Directors position… Im just trying to think of what’s best for the company?

 

Would Jesus pout if he didn’t get the job promotion?

 

Would Jesus rationalize watching game of thrones… “well I know there is some pornography, but it’s actually a really good story, and I don’t watch it for the porn… I actually wish they didn’t have that in there” (oh really Jesus)

 

Could you see Jesus listening to a sermon about how important it is to read and pray and he keeps thinking to himself during the sermon “this pastor lives in a fantasy world, I don’t have a job where I get paid to read and pray”.

 

Could you see Jesus barking at his wife… It’s not enough that I have to bring in the money and do everything else around the house… and your too tired to go to bed with me… so much for your wedding vows. (wife… but Jesus, I am just truly tired tonight) Jesus, “oh your always tired, what about me? Im tired but I take care of my business”. 

 

Can you see Jesus at Starbucks watching a guy get out of his new BMW and thinking… this guy is a tool, he thinks he’s all that. Or God why don’t I get a BMW? 

 

Could you see Jesus losing his temper with his kids at the dinner table? Marcus sit down or i will make you sit down. Jesus, he is just tired he had a long day. Sure Honey we will just let our kids be disrespectful and do whatever they want because they are tired. Jesus all I am saying is if you could have a little more patience… Marcus sit down or i will paddle your bottom. 

 

Could you see Jesus copping out of things he promised his kids? Dad are we still going fishing this week? Listen I have a lot more work then I thought I would have and I am just not feeling well so we are going to have to do it another day. 

 

Today simply ask yourself “WHAT WOULD JESUS DO, HOW WOULD HE RESPOND, WHAT WOULD BE HIS ATTITUDE” and then ask him to help you be like him. Spend time with him today even if it is only 5 minutes asking him to help you be more like him.

I believe the same stands true when we spend time with our earthly father. He rubs off on us. 

 

BUT UNDERSTAND THIS…

Time is the modem by which we have access to change. Without time we cannot change… all of Gods best for us must happen within the realm of time. So it is with our earthly father as it is with our heavenly father.

*LESSON: Don’t spend your time running after things… seen your time running after God. 

 

Back to the quote about the Fathers involvement with his kids and the positive impact. You do realize that the kids while hanging out with Dad are not all pumped because of all the great qualities that they will acquire… not at all. They simply are excited to hang with Dad… the qualities are the bonus. And so is it with our walk with our heavenly father. We get the pleasure of hanging out with him and the benefits just grow out of that.

Abraham Maslow once said “A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself.”

 

 

Who are you?

We fall into 2 extreme traps in life.

One is to coward and just be who everyone thinks we should be. Wether that be what our parents think we should be, or our wives or society…

The second is just at evil and that is to try to be who we are not called to be. We allow our fleshly desires and sinful cravings dictate who we should be.

 

Here are my examples. When you try to be who your parents/wife/society want you to be… you are not being you. DUH… right. But what that means is you never tap your potential to be you and to experience you. If I am truly musical, I have perfect pitch, I have melodies swarming through my head, I can sing 3 octaves, I can naturally pick up an instrument and play it almost immediately… but my Mom and Dad raised me wanting me to be a Doctor. Ok, I might be a pretty good doctor- but that is not where my potential lies. My potential lies in my musical ability.

 

Second example of allowing our human sinfulness and cravings steer our lives. How many people went after booze, drugs, women, money, fame you name it. They let their cravings create their own prison. They became enslaved by their cravings and may never attempt to create the life they are gifted for, called to.

 

So what is the balance?

I think scripture is pretty clear. It shows us we have spiritual gifting’s (by the way I think all spiritual gifts are available to us but we typically lean into certain ones) but anyway, we have spiritual giftings, we have callings, we have natural talents and abilities and we have core values that help direct us.

So lets put this together- 

Spiritual gifting - giving

Calling - work with animals

Natural talents and abilities - music and team building

Core values - loyalty

NOW IF YOU CAN FIND A JOB THAT FILLS ALL OF THESE- YOU ARE ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES. BUT IF NOT HOW DO YOU CREATE A LIFE OF MEANING OUT OF A THIS COLLAGE?

 

My good friend Joe Steinke was a strange animal. He spoke Mandrin, He was an artist and musician, he had a passion for missions and one of his core values was seeking out and loving the unlovable. He at one point had no idea of how to merge these… until God!

God created a journey where he could go overseas with students, share the gospel to Mandarin speaking cultures using the arts and music and to the least of these.

YOU FIND OUT THEIR FINANCIAL NEEDS AND YOU CREATS SOME CONCERTS OR CD COMPILATIONS TO RAISE MONEY… AND ALL THE WHILE YOU ARE LOVING PEOPLE AND ABLE TO SHARE CHRIST WITH THEM. 

 

Here is what I have found to be true in life: when you give God complete control over your spiritual gifts, your calling, your natural talents and abilities and your core values HE will make a place for you. AND THAT IS WHEN YOU REALLY START LIVING LIFE.

Unless you’ve been holed up in a closet somewhere you have had to have seen the many retired military men and women on the TV news telling us about all the different strategies and schemes of the Iraqis and various terrorist groups. They have computer generated models and illustrations that help us to understand what is going on in the way and how our men and women can overcome. It’s not that the United States went into this battle with the thought of losing, but they did go in with a level of respect for the enemy and spent much time and poured over much intelligence as they planned their battle strategy. We need to do something very similar as we engage in spiritual warfare. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil. Ephesians 6:11 Once Paul agreed to forgive a brother along with the Corinthian church...so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are very familiar with his evil schemes. 2 Corinthians 2:11 Like Paul, we need to be aware of Satan’s tactics if we are going to win the war. Let’s look at four helpful ways we can become aware: 1. To assign too much or too little credit to the reality of demonic activity is to error greatly. My own thought is we assign to much power to him and not enough regarding his strategy based on his nature/names.

 

5. As Believer’s In Christ, We Do Not Fight For Victory, We Fight From Victory. In Christ’s Power We Are Invincible!

 

 

  Our spiritual enemy is already defeated at the cross of Christ, yet he continues to hurl out lies, insults, and condemnation at the saints. We fight a very real battle against a very real enemy, but we need to know without a doubt that our victory over him is assured if we walk in his victory. We do not fight for victory, we fight from victory when we have his armor on! 

  In a classic "Twilight Zone" episode from 1960, an American on a walking trip through central Europe gets caught in a raging storm. Staggering through the blinding rain, he chances upon an imposing medieval castle. It’s a hermitage for a brotherhood of monks. The reclusive monks reluctantly take him in. Later that night, the American discovers a cell with a man locked inside. An ancient wooden staff bolts the door. The prisoner claims he’s being held captive by the "insane" head monk, Brother Jerome and he pleads for the American to release him. The prisoner’s kindly face and gentle voice win him over. The American confronts Brother Jerome, who declares that the prisoner is actually none other than Satan, "the father of lies," held captive by the Staff of Truth, the one barrier he cannot pass. This incredible claim convinces the American that Jerome is indeed mad. As soon as he gets the chance, he releases the prisoner who immediately transforms into a hideous, horned demon and vanishes in a puff of smoke! The stunned American is horrified at the realization of what he has done. Jerome responds sympathetically. "I’m sorry for you, my son. All your life you will remember this night and whom you have turned loose upon the world." "I didn’t believe you," the American replies. "I saw him and didn’t recognize him," to which Jerome solemnly observes, "That is man’s weakness and Satan’s strength." What a true statement that is -- one that I hope we can overcome as we learn of the spiritual warfare that faces us in the days to come.

3. Satans Goal Is To Destroy Us and cause us to doubt Christ. My dad playing racquetball against the big woman at the YMCA.

 

 

Satan has power - more then we realize, but even a greater strategy then power… I don’t dwell on his power, because greater is he that is in me, then the power of this world…

However A similar problem comes when Christians underestimate the power of our enemy. While we don’t want to give him more power than he really has, we make a huge mistake if we think he and his demonic army have no power at all… and more importantly we underestimate his strategy.

1 Peter 5:8 Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the Devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour. Satan is a present reality in our lives whether we like it or not. He wants nothing more than to destroy our faith, take away our credibility, and lead us to stumble into sin. We have to be prepared for his attacks, and we need to show him some level of respect as far as his abilities are concerned.

 

That respect is in knowing his strategies and preparing for them. Again we have a greater power in us… but if we are not aware of his strategy we will lose ground in our fight! 

 

What is his strategy?

He works on your finances through your lies.

He works on your relationships through your lies.

He works on your faith through your lies.

THEREFORE we must have the mind of Christ. 

Jesus said “I am the truth, the way and the life” 

TALK ABOUT POLAR OPPOSITES! 

You must know the word of God and you must be ready to respond in the same way Christ does in the desert… speaking the word of God.

If you can rule your mind by Gods word you will win the fight.  This past week I have been challenged financially, relationally, and with my wives health.

If i just let any thought take up residence in my mind I would be broke, divorced, sick and DESTITUTE. 

The mind is the battleground - its an invisible war, a spiritual war but mark my words… a winnable war through Christ.

Blue pill…. luxurious security, tranquil happiness, and the blissful ignorance of the harsh realities of life, basking in an (essentially dishonest) illusion. sleep on and never be the wiser…

Red pill…representing a life of harsh knowledge, desperate freedom, and the brutal truths of reality,

2. We Are Involved In An Invisible War, A Cosmic Conflict That Has Eternal Implications The Bible tells us that once Daniel had been praying to God and not receiving an answer to his prayer -- an angel came to him and explained the delay in terms of spiritual warfare: Then he said, "Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer. But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia. Daniel 10:12-13 There is much here I do not understand, but what is very obvious is that a spiritual war was taking place between these spirits and angels. This reveals that in the world which is unseen by us there is a conflict going on, a conflict of the ages between good and evil, light and darkness, God and Satan. It reveals that there are satanic forces and heavenly forces. And it reveals that we are smack dab in the middle of the whole thing.

Lets look at another example;Once Elisha and his servant were confronted with the army of King Aram which had surrounded the city. The servant saw the chariots of the enemy and began to despair. "Ah, my lord, what will we do now?" he cried out to Elisha. "Don’t be afraid!" Elisha told him. "For there are more on our side than on theirs!" Then Elisha prayed, "O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!" The LORD opened his servant’s eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. 2 Kings 6:15b-17 God revealed to them that He was ready to do battle on their behalf from the world that was unseen with human eyes. The spiritual battle that we are in is no less real than it was for Daniel, or Elisha, or any of God’s people down through the ages.Satan, the god of this evil world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe, so they are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News that is shining upon them. They don’t understand the message we preach about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God. 2 Corinthians 4:4  It is quite obvious that God is calling His church to engage Satan in warfare so we must be strong in the Lord and be able to break satanic strongholds. Our weapons are not of this world, are not visible, but are unseen weapons like prayer, the Word of God, and other things that we’ll look at in further lessons. The decision that we make today, as to whether we will or will not begin to take up the weapons of our warfare has eternal implications for those who are not yet in a relationship with Christ. We need to begin by honestly considering that some of the struggles, relational conflicts, and misunderstandings about God are caused by satanic opposition.

 

 

You can go to church and play Christian-ease. You can blame your problems on people, circumstances, life in general… but it’s too late now. You now know that you are living in a harsh spiritual unseen reality of warfare. If you do not go to war, you will live a long laborious life. You may no longer blame God for your life due to your lack of warfare, your laissez-faire attitude. Is life hard? unfair? lacking victory? It’s because you chose not to engage in the spiritual realm and fight.  

 

 

Keys to warfare!

1. obedience brings power! If you struggle with human authority you will never have the spiritual authority.

2. People want Gods power for their ministry but not Gods character or nature

3. Your intimacy with God should be your most intimidating part about you concerning your spiritual life & warfare.

4. You plan to win the war!  No plan means you plan to lose the war.  There is no other way to look at it.

 

The soldiers in a war don’t just rely on training and weaponry – they rely on the orders given them by high command.

Everyday you should get up and say “Father you know the enemy is out there and he wants to kill me, destroy me, lie to me, deceive me… what are your plans for me today to withstand the attacks of the enemy!

 

When the scripture says that satan will shoot firery darts at us that is a specific shot at our weakness!

7-12-19 Friday

 

Danny Sampson robbed a bank in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He used a hand-me-down Colt 45 and stole $6000. When the Royal Canadian Mounted Police caught him and confiscated the gun they sent the gun to the lab. The laboratory recognized the gun as a collector’s piece. It was worth over $100,000.

So this guy has a weapon that is far beyond the value he understands it to be… he just couldn’t see it.

 

 

1. There Is An Invisible World That Is Just As Real As The Visible World We have 5 physical senses that tell us immediately about life…

Touch

Smell

Sight

Hearing

Taste

 

But did you know we also have 5 spiritual senses!

For him who has ears to hear  let him hear – spiritual ears

Smell – the gospel is a sweet aroma to some and a stench to others

Taste and see the lord is good

Touch – mark 5 the woman who wanted to touch Jesus- it was a spiritual thing

Matt 5:8, 7:5 spiritual sight

 

It is much like the world of germs… we don’t see them, so they must not exist.  

 

But if you ever check under a microscope you say GROSSSSS!  They are everywhere!

 

My son just told me that for  school they had to get samples of germs to see under the microscope… he swabbed a toilet and said it was disgusting.  So now he washes his hands more… 

 

But it can wear off if he is not careful to remember.

 

 

Do you have an issue in your life? Realize first it is a spiritual invisible issue. 

NO MATTER WHAT IT IS… EVEN IF YOU CAUSED IT… it is still a spiritual invisible issue.                                         

I think even those of us who are the most conservative believers tend to accept as reality only those things that we can see, hear, touch, smell, or taste. The Bible sitting at my desk is real, the clothes on my back are real, and the roast in the oven is real. I know that they are real, because I can experience them with the senses God has given me. But when we begin to talk about that which is invisible, those things that cannot be seen, heard, touched, smelled, or tasted, we tend to think that those things are not real, or somehow at a lesser level of reality than the visible world. Nothing could be further from the truth:

For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

 

Check this out While we exist in this present visible world, we also exist simultaneously in the unseen world that Paul describes here. The unseen world is described as the place where evil beings exist, but it is also the place Christ, and all believers exist.

Don’t believe me… what does scripture say God...has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we belong to Christ. Ephesians 1:3b This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms Ephesians 1:19b-20 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ, and we are seated with him in the heavenly realms all because we are one with Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:6 Beyond this world of our senses is the unseen world where all that is of a spiritual nature dwells -- both good and evil -- and it is in this invisible world that spiritual warfare takes place -- it is in this unseen world that we fight against the principalities and powers that seek to do us harm.

 

Do you remember Acts 19:15 

this is when the demons spoke to the seven sons of scheva. These priests were trying to cast out demons in Jesus name. And the demons said “Jesus I know, Paul I know… but who are you?” 

The demons knew the invisible world… They knew that was were the fight was handled

They even knew defeat at the hands of Jesus and Paul

 

So where am I going with this…

In todays world due to the internet we can see and know all these super powerful Christians. 

We see the fruits of these people as outward rather then inward.

What do I mean? We want to be super powerful Christians, we want Gods power, but we don’t want the battle to go for his nature and character. There is a battle to know Gods heart… it is an invisible battle that you must be willing to take on through Christ (ephesians 6) in order to walk in that power and authority.

 

Remember what I said at the top of this podcast: There Is An Invisible World That Is Just As Real As The Visible World The most intimidating thing in your arsenal against the enemy should be your intimacy with God… but that comes through the unseen world not the outward world.

Outward - church attendance, giving, serving, reading your bible, not going to R rated movies, not drinking or smoking etc…

But intimacy comes from the unseen world - time alone in his presence, talking to him, listening to him, seeking him, obeying him.
