The Good Brothers are back with review of "Old Flames,"  the second issue of the DCAU tie-in comic Batman The Adventures Continue: Season Three. The hosts are joined by the issue's artist and friend of the show Kevin Altieri to discuss a little about what went into the artwork for the comic, what it was like working with Alan Burnett and Paul Dini again, and his approach to working with the updated New Batman Adventures style character redesigns. Despite the name, this review has absolutely nothing to do with either of James Cameron's blockbuster films as the Good Brothers break down "Avatar" from Batman: The Animated Series this week. The hosts have a myriad of things to discuss including the plot which has the return of Ra's Al Ghul determined to find the secret to an ancient Egyptian ooze and more fleshing out of Bruce and Talia's storied romance. The visuals are broken down with discussions of Bruce's many wardrobe changes, a sepia toned finale and the somewhat out of place, undead Egyptian Goddess that is revealed in the final act. Plus the hosts talk about the soundtrack which is asked to carry the first scene on its own and a voice cast that features a Star Trek reunion! The Good Brothers return to their Batman; The Animated Series reviews with one of the most memorable episodes in the entire BTAS run with a review of "Trial." The hosts discuss how this episode that was originally pitched to be a full-length movie fits nicely into a 22 minute episode while establishing the Janet Van Dorn character and a large representation of the Rogues Gallery. Hear the hosts speculate on the Bruce/Van Dorn relationship, discuss the predictably hilarious bits of episode's co-writer Paul Dini's humor showcased throughout the 2nd and 3rd acts, and the notable lack of various villain themes used in the Harvey Cohen soundtrack. Over a year after the last issue hit shelves, Batman The Adventures Continue returned this week with HUGE first issue picking up on plot threads from last season and linking to other classic DCAU properties like Mask of The Phantasm and Justice League Unlimited. By returning to the Batman: The Animated Series roots with a story steeped in the classic noir from the returning writers Paul Dini and Alan Burnett, the hosts break down the entire plot which follows up with The Muscle character introduced in Season Two of the comic and brings back some recognizable faces not seen since the BTAS days.
