The forum will explore the shared history of St. John’s Church in Ohio City and Trinity Parish, looking in particular how St. John’s, like Trinity, has emerged as a leading agent of change in the community over the years.

Our guest, Timothy Holcomb is Project Director at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ohio City. Tim received his Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from Cleveland State University. He joined St. John’s because he sees the creative possibilities of a neighborhood church with a social-justice history, and he loves getting his hands dirty. He lives in Ohio City.

This special Bicentennial Dean’s Forum features the two living deans of Trinity Cathedral, Dean Tracey Lind and the Rt. Rev. Bill Persell. Together, they will reflect on their ministry and leadership experiences, discussing how Trinity engaged the wider world during their tenures. They will also discuss the unique role cathedrals have in the 21st century, including how Trinity can work for the flourishing of Cleveland.

The Rt. Rev. William D. Persell served as the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Chicago from 1999-2008. He presently is an Assisting Bishop in the Diocese of Ohio, where he previously was Dean of Trinity Cathedral, Cleveland.

As rector at St. John’s Church in Los Angeles for nine years, he was an advocate for Asian and Hispanic ministries and served as Vice President of the Black Clergy Association of Los Angeles. Bishop Persell was rector of St. Ann and the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn, NY for nine years. Throughout his ministry, Bishop Persell has been a leader for peace and justice in church and society, and greater ecumenical and interfaith cooperation and understanding. He worked extensively with faith-based community organizations in Los Angeles, Brooklyn, and Cleveland.

Bishop Persell has served as a member of the Boards of Trustees of Rush University Medical Center, Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, the Christian Century Foundation, and a number of social service agencies. He is past President of the Council of Religious Leaders of Metropolitan Chicago.

Bishop Persell and his wife, Nancy Pollard Persell, live in Bratenahl, Ohio. They have six grown children and nine grandchildren.

The Very Reverend Tracey Lind came to Trinity in 2000. During her current tenure as Dean, she has led the development of Trinity Commons, an award-winning, environmentally sustainable campus that is home to Trinity Cathedral and the Diocese of Ohio.

Lind began her ordained ministry as associate Rector of Christ Church in Ridgewood, New Jersey, where she served from 1989-2000. Prior to entering seminary, Lind worked in nonprofit management and community development. She continues that work as a board member and advisor to many nonprofit organizations including: The Episcopal Church Pension Fund, Judson Retirement Communities, The Campus District, Ten Thousand Villages of Cleveland, Green City Blue Lake Advisory Committee, Community Shares, and the ACLU. Lind also serves as a member of the Sustainable Cleveland 2019 Steering Committee and is one of the co-chairs of Greater Cleveland Congregations, an interfaith community organizing effort.

A native of Columbus, Ohio, Dean Lind published her first book of photographs and essays, Interrupted By God, with The Pilgrim Press in 2004. Her photographs have been exhibited in New York/New Jersey-area juried shows, at the Cleveland Museum of Art, and in many other individual exhibits.

She lives with her spouse, Emily Ingalls, in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood of Cleveland.

This is one of several Wednesday evening forums celebrating the history of Trinity during this its bicentennial year.

Mr. Wayne Bifano, Mrs. Martha Bifano present a fascinating talk on the early history of Trinity and its role in shaping our community.

You may know Trinity as the place for Forum Lectures/Podcasts, “A Place at the Table”, and Brown Bag Concerts. All of these offerings have their roots in Trinity’s history of feeding the mind, the body, and the spirit of the community it serves. But who is Trinity? What is Trinity? Let us examine the rich history of Trinity from its founding in 1816. Who were the leaders that guided this community of faith as it weathered wars, Civil and World, the Great Depression, and internal struggles of high vs low church, the role of women, civil rights and human rights?

On Oct. 23, 2016, we welcomed The Reverend Canon Michael Rusk from St. Peter’s Church of Oadby Parish in the United Kingdom to the Dean's Forum. Reverend Rusk's wide-ranging conversation with Dean Tracey Lind included Christian-Muslim relations, the theology of play, the Church of England, the Troubles of Northern Ireland, and cathedral ministry in Great Britain.

This forum will focus on how we relate to our work, or lack of work, and the seeking of something deeper and more meaningful in our career and life. Referencing her new book, God Is Always Hiring, the forum will explore how to transform one's career into a meaningful vocation.

Regina Brett is the New York Times bestselling author of God Never Blinks: 50 Lessons for Life's Little Detours, which has been published in more than 24 languages. She also wrote Be the Miracle: 50 Lessons for Making the Impossible Possible.

Her newest book, God Is Always Hiring: 50 Lessons for Finding Fulfilling Work, was released in 2015. Regina wrote it to help people find their mission in life.
