Welcome to the very first episode of The Deconstruction Room.
We’re three people raised in religious culture trying to figure out what we still believe, what we don’t, and how to heal from everything in between. In this introductory episode, we share our backgrounds, explain what deconstruction means to us, and create the foundation for the conversations ahead.
We discuss religious trauma, the difference between healthy faith communities and harmful religious environments, and how fear-based teachings can shape our beliefs and identities. Drawing from our experiences growing up in the Assemblies of God tradition, we explore some of the questions, fears, and church culture that led us to begin examining the faith we inherited.
This isn’t a debate. It’s not about attacking faith or telling anyone what they should believe. It’s about honesty, healing, and creating a safe space where questions are welcome and doubt isn’t demonized.
In this episode, we talk about:
• What religious trauma is and how it affects people
• The difference between deconstructing and deconverting
• Fear, shame, and church culture
• Weird church rules and childhood questions
• The beliefs that impacted us most
• Where we stand with faith today
• What we hope listeners take away from this journey
Whether you’re still a Christian, no longer identify with faith, or are somewhere in between, you’re welcome here. Healing can be messy, but it is possible.
Be sure to subscribe and join us every Wednesday as each host shares their personal story, what led them to deconstruct, and where they are in their faith journey today.
