THE DEMONOLOGIST - EP 1: "You're No Expert" premiere episode (based on the books by Adam Blai) follows a clinical psychology PhD student whose rigid scientific worldview is pushed to its absolute limit. While interning at a violent state correctional facility, his skepticism is first rattled by chilling, unexplained paranormal phenomena echoing through a rumored-haunted prison building training facility. His orderly world entirely collapses when a school paranormal research group asks for his help investigating a house in Pittsburgh experiencing severe supernatural problems. During the investigation, he attempts a hypnotic induction on a woman claiming to be haunted, only to watch in horror as a malevolent, non-human entity seizes control of her body. He explains why consolation and desolation can sometimes appear at the same time, the Ignatian warning against making major decisions in desolation, and how to actively “fight back” against destructive thoughts instead of simply waiting for them to fade.

Adam also explores why bringing a struggle into the light by sharing it with a trusted person can strip it of its power, what reciprocal discernment can look like when something truly comes from God, and how providence may open doors when a direction is real.
