Rebbe Nachman teaches that the center of the universe is rooted in the revelation of the Infinite Light that shines into the world through the central point in Jerusalem, specifically the Foundation Stone in the Holy of Holies. Creation unfolded when a ray from the Infinite Light entered the primordial hollow space and struck this center point, from which the entire world expanded outward, similar to how a body develops from the navel or how a plant grows from its central stem. Midrashim describe the world spreading in all directions from this point, portraying the flow of divine nourishment descending like an umbilical cord that sustains all existence. Even after the destruction of the Beit Hamikdash, this spiritual center remains active, and the world continues to receive both chayut—basic life-force—and shefa—abundant blessing—from this source. King Solomon’s extraordinary wisdom in knowing where to plant every fruit and vegetable reflected his deep understanding of how creation is rooted in this central point and how divine sustenance flows through it into the world. Spiritual setbacks and struggles can themselves form vessels that enable a person to receive greater light, illustrated by the teaching that challenges create inner chambers through which the Infinite Light can enter, revealing that even in exile the Jewish people remain connected to the central source of divine vitality through faith, Torah, and the teachings of the true tzaddikim. ✨
