The Dice Men Cometh

So what the hell has happened in the last 2 weeks since the Dice Men were last on air? Well, Bordercon happened, that’s what, and we are here to talk about the three nominees for this years Kennerspiel. Who likes what? What likes that?!?! And that is so much better than the other one!! The whole episode is taken up with everything Kenner as the boys have played all three contenders, and as usual we are expecting one to clearly win; so it won’t. It’s great to be home, but we had so much fun at Bordercon we will no doubt mention it for a long time so stay tuned for more in coming weeks! Thanks as always to Area 52!

Abraham Lincoln famously said “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt”, but at the Dice Men Cometh staying silent isn’t an option, especially as this week we discuss the newest Martin Wallace game, Lincoln which is wrapping up on Kickstarter as we go to air. And with the news that SdJ Judges are sick and tired of games with poor rulebooks, we talk about our experiences with the various levels of rulebook quality we encounter before finishing with a quick fire review of Khan of Khans by the good Dr Reiner. Thunderbolts and lightening, very very frightening me! Galileo! Galileo! And although Tasmania is nearly underwater, the Dice Men Cometh venture into the studio to discuss a game, based on a show, based on several books; The Expanse. Leon then takes a look at some expansions for one of his favourite games, and Mark finishes us off with a discussion on Darwin’s Choice, a game currently on Kickstarter which has you migrating, mutating and munching on various made up animals! Who would have thought that little old Tasmania is home to yet another tabletop artist? Well, the Dice Men have brought him into the studio to discuss Plaid Hat Games latest outing, Crystal Clans for which he did all the art. It’s Marty Abel and we’re sure this won’t be the last time you see his work in a game! And if you thought the half-arsie awards from last year were good, we have some amazing news for you as we announce Australia’s newest tabletop awards, The Kangas! Thanks to Area 52! Brains!!! We wish we had some, but not tonight as it’s all things Zombicide Black Plague in this weeks episode! The guys discuss the burning question – are there ever too many zombies in a game?!?!?! And from brains to zombies and back again as Mark discusses the entire history of Mensa and the recent announcement of the Mensa Select Winners for 2018 including a big game from a small island, Raiders of the North Sea. Finally, Garth takes a quick trip to the loo as he does a brief, but long overdue iOS update! All that and not much else, as it’s a full show except to say thanks again to Area 52

This week the Dice Men are sending their love, in the fog, to each and every one of you as we discuss a game we have ALL played, but not with each other – we think this may be a first! After we manage to kill the romance off it’s time to spend all our disposable income on all the newest and shiniest Kickstarter games (and yes there are a lot as always). We end this week’s episode with a brief chat about a micro game all about hitting the waves, hanging 10 and generally being gnarly, all of which is beyond us in real life. This week the Dice Men Cometh transitions into a cooking show, and our first featured recipe is the well known “thunderscone” that must be eaten when playing Thunderstone Quest, which coincidentally is what the boys have been playing lately! So if your bellies aren’t fully already, scoff them down while Mark prattles on about all the latest tabletop news and Leon gives us his take on the massive Dead of Winter: Warring Colonies expansion!
