The Dice Men Cometh

After Garth calls in from China to taunt us, Leon and Mark settle in to catch up with a studio guest, Marty Abel, the Hobart-based artist for Plaid Hat Games’ Crystal Clans. We chat with him about upcoming expansions, as well as the Kanga awards. We also take the opportunity to look at some of the new games being released this week in Essen, and then take Marty off to the pub for a beer and a game. One, ha ha ha, two, ha ha ha, three, yes three Dice Men are in the studio today for the last time (at least for a few weeks) as Garth jets off on holiday!

Tonight we dust off Cyclades in this weeks what we’ve been playing before Mark expands our Essen minds with a preview of some really exciting expansions that will be released very very soon!

Leon brings the show in for a perfect landing by chatting about Now Boarding, a real time co-op game all about transporting people around the good old US of A. It may be a little stressful, but hey, such is life!

Leon kicks off with his love for El Grande, an area control game that tickles his fancy; Garth follows suit with Chinatown, a raw negotiation game that hopefully will be getting a re-print, then Mark finishes up with an all time great in Power Grid. As three completely law-abiding citizens (Hail Hydra), the Dice Men are today discussing a new social deduction game for other law-abiding citizens (Hail Hydra); but we can’t tell you what it’s called as that is against the law (Hail Hydra). And one of the surfaces that Leon played games on recently was his newly delivered and built Table of Ultimate Gaming!!! Was it worth it? Worth the wait? Worth the weight? Does size really matter?? Our jealousy towards Leon steers us towards a discussion on what would the ultimate gaming room look like. Garth needs some advice as his new gaming room is getting nearer to completion. Then finally, we make up for last week by chatting about the Kanga nominated game Lisboa. If you haven’t played it yet and even if you have, well, you should listen. And that is the show this week! Where do people find the money to back them all? And lastly, it’s back to cute, but not so cuddly creatures, as we re-visit an oldie but a goodie in Triassic Terror by Australian designer Peter Hawes.
