THIS EPISODE IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF BRIGADIER GENERAL CHUCK YEAGER, 1923-2020, THE FIRST MAN TO FLY FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF SOUND.

Join Jay Seffern, a former U.S. Air Force flight test engineer, to discuss his flight test experiences with the F-20 Tiger Shark, the F-16 Viper, the HH-60 Black Hawk, and the MC-130 Combat Talon II.  Jay and I do joke around with each other a bit in this episode, and we talk a lot about aviation geekery and some military history, too.  Jay also talks getting to know the late, great Chuck Yeager!

Col Jay Seffern is an airline pilot who makes his home in the Dallas area.  He is a native of New York City and holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Purdue University.  In addition to his experiences at the U.S. Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB, California, Jay spent three years at the NASA Ames Research Center as a young Air Force officer.  Jay flew both the B-52 and the F-111 in the USAF.

This week's guest is retired law enforcement officer Robert M. "Bobby" Sherman.  Bobby will discuss the defunding the police movement from the perspective of a street cop.  Bobby retired as a Senior Special Agent from Homeland Security Investigations after a 26 year career, and was a patrol officer with the Houston Police Department for the ten years prior to that.  He is the son of a career New York City Police Department patrol officer, and the brother of a career police patrol officer.  Being a member of a law enforcement family as well as his 36 years of law enforcement experience on both the city and federal levels gives Bobby an informed perspective on this movement and its effects on American society.

Colonel Jay Seffern joins us today for a discussion of the B-52 bomber in war and peace!  The first B-52 flew in 1952; it joined U.S. Air Force operational forces in 1956.  The last production model rolled off the assembly line in 1962, and the B-52 is still in active USAF service.  The USAF projects that the B-52 will be flying operationally until 2060!!!  Some say it won't leave active service until after its one-hundredth birthday.  Join Jay and I as he describes this magnificent aircraft's history, missions, and what it is like to fly it, including the sights, sounds and smells!

Colonel Seffern is a retired U.S. Air Force officer and makes his living as an airline pilot.  He is the host of the "Focus on Valor" Series, which is included here in our catalog of episodes.  Jay is a native of New York City and holds B.S. and M.S.  degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University.  He makes his home on the Texas Gulf Coast.

We are in the immediate aftermath of the 2020 U.S. national elections.  Ballots are still being counted as of 5 Nov, and some people are having anxiety attacks over the outcome.  Don't let external circumstances control your emotions!  Take a step back, a deep breath, and take back the power to control your own emotions!  As Shakespeare wrote, "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so."  Stop and think!

The Colonel lets us know where he's been and then rants about social media, the election, and rants some more about (anti) social media!  The Colonel mentions the Golden Rule and introduces the "Silver Rule" for online engagement.  Listen to what the Colonel has to say!

The Golden Rule: Treat other people as you would want to be treated.

The Silver Rule: Do not say something to someone over the Internet that you would not say to them in person.

Quote of the Week:
"Social Media is not your friend!  It's your exploiter!"
