  • Episode #4 Living With Spinal Injury, Devotee Dating and Healing Meditation
Welcome to our latest episode of the disabilitymatch podcast.  We are already up to  episode #4 which is a big achievement for us and now we are getting well established.  The great thing is that there are so many awesome guests who want to be on the podcast and talk to you about what they are doing for the disabled community here in the UK.  Actually we do have quite a number of overseas listeners who enjoy our show and, of course, we have guests from all over the world on our podcast.
In this episode we have Dan Burden who is the Public Affairs spokesman for the Spinal Injuries Association (http://www.spinal.co.uk/)
(SIA) who is himself in a wheelchair from a spinal injury he suffered in his 20's.  The SIA is 'peer led' and its senior roles are held by disabled members of the community.  We will hear about many of the services the SIA offer to people with all forms of spinal injuries.  Dan also offers encouragement for singles with spinal injuries trying online dating. @spinalinjuries
Gillian is here again from disabledholidays.com (http://www.disabledholidays.com)  to tell us about the wonders of the Lake District which is right there on our doorstep and has some amazing facilities for accessible walks and holiday fun. @disableddirect
Robin Wilson-Beattie (http://www.sexabledwithrobinwb.com/) unveils the mysteries of 'Devotee' love and introduces us to the fetish side of amputee dating.  Much of what she mentions was new to me and she clarifies everything in her very special way. @sexabled
Finally, we have a new expert - Artie Wu - who runs the Preside meditation website (http://presidelife.com/)in California and he explains to our listeners how meditation can help you deal with body image and personal anxieties.  You can try out a selection of his techniques for free from his site. @presidelife

We have Martyn Sibley who is the founder of disabilityhorizons website which is a favourite site of mine and a source for all the latest news from the disabled world. He is a blogger and world traveller with lots of fascinating things to tell us.

We have a vary interesting discussion with Andrea Pregel a founder of the Globi Organisation in Italy and who has dedicated much of his life to issues of ‘inclusion’ with a big focus on disability. Amongst other achievements he created the ‘Drawability’ project where children around the world express through art what disability signifies for them.

Our travel expert Gillian looks at the opportunities for accessible cruises and tells us what you can expect on a modern cruise liner holiday.

And last, but by no means least, we welcome back Robin our sexpert from Atlanta Georgia who will show you how to charge up our vibrators for some tingly action.

  • Episode #1 Disabilitymatch Podcast

Welcome to the first episode of the disabilitymatch Podcast. We start with an interview with Katie from Gig Buddies which is a super cool charity down in Sussex to help people with learning disabilities attend gigs and other events safely in the company of a 'Gig Buddy'. Gig Buddies is part of the Stay up Late campaign @StayUpLateUK to help people with learning disabilities enjoy night time socialising without depending on their regular carers. You can contact them via their website or catch them on twitter @gigbuddies

This first episode also has a 'destination report' which will be a regular podcast feature. We are delighted to have the expertise from Gillian at disabledholidays.com who will talk to you about suitable holidays and destinations that you might not have even considered. Today Gillian looks at Tenerife which is a favourite destination of mine and has a great climate all year round. It is a resort with great wheelchair accessibility.

Because disabilitymatch is a disabled dating site we thought it essential to have a really good disabled sex expert on the show to front our 'Intimacy Report'. We are delighted to have with us Robin Wilson-Beattie who is based in Atlanta Georgia and is an expert on sex and disability. Robin Wilson-Beattie is a member of the Association of American Sexual Educators, Counselors and Therapists(AASECT). She has been involved in sexuality education and awareness since high school. After acquiring a physical disability, she began in 2008 speaking on sexuality and disability topics and issues. Robin has done presentations and speeches at conferences, medical schools, and disability organizations. You can reach Robin through her website http://www.sexabledwithrobinwb.com or follow her on twitter @sexAbled
