The Spanish teacher at this school, 61 year-old Ann Maguire, had been savagely stabbed to death by one of her own students. Ann was in the middle of helping a student with schoolwork when 15 year-old William Cornick walked up behind her with a large kitchen knife and started stabbing her. William had pre packed the weapon in his backpack on his way to school that morning, along with a bottle of Jack Daniels so he could have a celebratory drink after he murdered his teacher.
