Resting in God’s Purpose for Your Work
Scripture
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” — Ephesians 2:10
Devotional
As you prepare for the week ahead, take a moment to remember this truth: your work has purpose because God has given it purpose.
You are not moving through your responsibilities randomly. You are not navigating your work by accident. God has placed you where you are, with the abilities you have, for reasons that go beyond what you can see.
But it’s easy to forget this.
When work feels routine or overwhelming, purpose can feel distant. You may begin to question whether what you do truly matters. You may wonder if your daily efforts make any lasting difference.
This is where rest becomes essential.
Rest is where you realign your perspective with truth. It is where you step back from the noise of responsibility and remember that God is at work—both in you and through you.
You don’t have to create purpose. You don’t have to manufacture meaning. You are invited to trust that God has already woven purpose into your work.
Your role is to walk in it.
As you enter the coming week, let go of the pressure to make everything feel significant. Instead, trust that God is working through even the smallest moments. Approach your responsibilities with intention, knowing that He is using them in ways you may not fully understand.
When you rest in God’s purpose, your work is no longer just activity—it becomes participation in something greater.
Reflection Questions
- Do I believe that God has a purpose for my work, even in the ordinary moments?
- Where have I been questioning the significance of what I do?
- What would change if I trusted that God is working through my responsibilities?
- How can I approach this next week with greater confidence in His purpose?
Action Step
Before the week begins, take a moment to thank God for placing you where you are. Acknowledge that your work has purpose, and commit to approaching it with that mindset.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for giving my work purpose. Even when I cannot see the full picture, help me to trust that You are working through me. Strengthen my faith so that I approach each day with confidence in Your plan. As I step into the week ahead, remind me that my work is part of something greater than myself. Amen.
