In hour two, Dom dives into some breaking (to him) news: people, American Citizens in Milwaukee, being rounded up and unjustly detained by authorities, for (the crime?) of speaking Spanish. With a caller, we take a look back at how crooks in government looted Orange County, California, and why Donald Trump will use it as a template to do the same thing in the federal government. Later, we return to the topic of Milwaukee's citizens being apprehended by ICE, and get input of callers on why We the People won't stand for it. While the water is still murky, Wisconsin has joined a lawsuit challenging the order, marking two our state has joined against Trump's policies, in less than two weeks.

Yesterday, Trump's White House released a memo ordering a freeze of up to $3 TRILLION in federal funds. Thankfully, a federal judge issued a stay until next Monday. To add to the federal shenanigan regarding 'efficiency' Trump has ordered all federal employees to return to the office. His administration is now offering buyouts for federal employees who don't want to return after being successful and efficient at home. Which means... they'll pay for the people not to work... which is somehow... efficient... Right. Regardless, it's an acceleration of Trump's promise to purge civil servants and replace them with loyalists.

U.S. District Judge Loren L. AliKhan for the District of Columbia issued a hold on the memo until next Monday. Still, so many organizations are already scrambling trying to understand how the memo- not a bill, not an executive order, a MEMO- will affect them. As Judge AliKhan says, it certainly appears that the federal government, in issuing this memo, did not understand the breadth of those who would be affected.

First, is there a glimmer of unity among national Democrats? All Senate Democrats- Fetterman with some nudging- signed on to a one sentence resolution denouncing President Trump's pardons for those who violently assaulted Capitol Police on January 6th, 2021. Not much, but it's a bit of unity.

However, our main focus for the day is- big surprise here- what lessons we can apply from FDR to today's political and economic world. Harvey's been ruminating on FDR's call for 'militant liberalism' lately, so we break it down. Turns out it's not about making us adhere to strict uniform codes or schedules, it's about enabling and empowering the common people. That sounds nice, can we have more of that please?

Happy days, y'all. It's a Monday and we're diving right into it all. Despair can leave us frozen. So let's focus on what we CAN control, eh?

This past week, many local Wisconsin communities' law enforcement agencies declared they would not participate in deportation efforts from the federal government. In response, Republicans in Wisconsin's legislature announced they will introduce a bill to force such cooperation. Dom and Jess strongly prefer that our local law enforcement instead focus on y'know, local law enforcement issues. So what can we do? We can call our elected officials and tell them what their constituents actually want.

Today is also International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This day marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, now 80 years ago. In a world where the man who controls the most resources and a powerful communciation platform performs a Nazi salute multiple times at a Presidential inauguration, we must bear witness and remember. When that same man then declares that Germany should 'move beyond' their guilt over the atrocities of the Holocaust, stand up and resist. Always. It's within your control.

In alarming news, the 47th President's Justice Department ordered a freeze on ALL civil rights cases currently in progress. DoJ officials may not file any new civil rights briefs, complaints, or court papers "until further notice." Also alarming, United States citizens have already been caught up in ICE sweeps seeking undocumented immigrants. In Arizona, members of the Navajo Nation reportedly have been detained. In New Jersey, the mayor of Newark reports that US citizens, including a military veteran, have been questioned and detained. The worst part of this is that those unlawfully detained would file their complaints through the Civil Rights office of the DoJ. Which, as a reminder, has been told to freeze all cases and not open any new ones.

Stay vigilant out there. Know your rights. Stand up for yourself and those around you.
