The Dom Salvia Show episodes

  • For Our Shared Humanity (Hour 1)

Sometimes it can feel like there is too much dividing us for us to unite. Don’t believe that. Cling to our shared humanity.

At the top of the hour, Dom and Producer Jess take time to acknowledge the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel. In the year since, war has ravaged the Levant. Why? Why can’t we see past the limited factors that divide us to the entirety that unites us? This is a complicated issue, and we recognize that as two people, we can only provide two perspectives. This opinion shared many of the conflicting emotions we’re struggling with today. Everywhere you look, you will find other perspectives. In this moment, let’s do what we can to embrace our shared love for human life.

In the second half hour, Dom talks with Michelle Velasquez, Chief Strategy Officer of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin. Michelle shares the critical work that PPAWI does to keep sexual and reproductive healthcare accessible. Planned Parenthood provides so much more than abortion care. And the national “debate” over aboriton is about so much more. It’s about the right to decide the course of our lives, regardless of our sex or gender.

  • See, we CAN agree on some things! (Hour 1)

Lead pipes and paint? Bad for us. Strong economy? Good for us! Look at that, two things to which we can easily agree! Now, how we get there… we’ll try to work through that.

Well, what about voting? Many of us agree that protecting the right of US citizens to vote is a top priority. Perhaps we don’t all agree on how easy it should be for citizens to fulfill their right and responsibility. But certainly, we must recognize that democracy does not function when our citizens cannot vote. Anne Egan-Waukau of Wisconsin Native Vote joins us for the second half hour to share how WNV works each day to combat disenfranchisement of Native voters. Beyond finding solutions to the concrete barriers blocking Native citizens from exercising their right to vote, WNV works to energize Native voters to participate in the civic process.

  • A Debatable Experience (Hour 2)

Matt Rothschild stays on to break down the VP debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance last night. Walz didn’t have his strongest performance. And Vance never stopped lying. So who won? Well, that depends on how much you value truth. If that’s a priority, there’s no contest: Walz spoke honestly and earnestly, if haltingly. Read the full transcript or rewatch the debate here and decide for yourself.

Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez joins us for the bottom of the hour. She shares her experiences in this election cycle and her expectations for voter turnout, from the Presidential shake-up to Wisconsin’s new legislative maps.

  • Partisan, Personal, and Unofficial (Hour 1)

What’s this? The October Surprise we started to hope for yesterday got here early! We didn’t have to wait until October 10th for content from Jack Smith’s filing against Donald Trump. Today, Judge Tanya Chutkan unsealed significant portions of the filing, outlining how and why Donald Trump ought to be prosecuted for his role in fomenting an insurrection on January 6th, 2021. Matt Rothschild joins Dom to break down the legalese! Here’s the unsealed document for your reading pleasure.

Charles Franklin Professor of Law and Public Policy and Director of the Marquette Law School Poll joins Dom for the second half hour. Charles brings some good news for the Harris-Walz ticket and for Tammy Baldwin in the most recent poll. We love to hear it!

  • Is that an October Surprise around the corner?(Hour 2)

Yes, it can be repetitive to hear day after day “Trump said another absolutely inane and horrendous thing.” And we will not stop sharing the real words that he says and the real consequences of his behavior.

When will Trump’s unacceptable behavior finally be enough for him to face real, personal consequences? Well, potentially very soon. Mark your calendars for October 10th. Any time that day or afterwards then, Tanya Chutkan may release Jack Smith’s 180 page report containing key evidence from the federal case being prosecuted against Trump for inciting an insurrection on January 6th, 2021. This report, already delayed several times by Trump’s legal team’s own efforts, may seriously shake up the election.
