Join us today for episode 5 of the DONESON podcast! This time we examine how racism has infiltrated popular culture and is continually spread via the most accessible platform in today's day and age; social media. The most pervasive racist issue that hand is the direct correlation between how people of color are portrayed in the media and the current racist environment. When the public is only seeing the extreme ends of the social spectrum- the tiny minority of celebrities and criminals; they are being fed a mental diet of envy and fear. This only serves to encourage hateful racist behavior and does not allow for images that are relatable to the average American of any color. Social media then exasperates these issues by permitting social platforms to amplify hateful rhetoric under the guise of free speech. If our country is going to have a chance for real and true change, then it is up to each one of us to demand change. Listen and learn how we make changes together.
Here we go for episode 4 on the DONESON podcast! Some heavy issues at hand today as we discuss the effects of racism on corporate America. At the top is where we see the modern-day executive version of the old plantation mentality: impenetrable hierarchies, corporate culture with continued systematic racism and it all hidden behind the cloak of traditional workplace values. Much of our government systems, academic institutions and financial powerhouses have deep roots in slavery. When we see how the foundation of our country was literally built on the back of racist policies, it is no wonder that the corporate plantation is still alive and well. But how does one navigate these hurdles in today's society? Join us and find out!
Welcome to episode 3 of the DONESON podcast! When it comes to the design of America, we have already seen that racism was at the base of our country's beginnings. But how many of us are aware that it is not always overtly continued but most often insidiously encouraged across the generations? From early segregation to redlining community demographics and even down to the criteria for getting qualified for a mortgage; all have roots in a racism that is uniquely American. As a nation we need to do better and we can… but it is only by recognizing these design flaws, calling them out and forging ahead with equality as the driving force. Listen in and find out how we can move forward together and create a new and better design.

On this episode we will dive into the details of how those who created the early days of slavery, have been benefitting from it ever since. The socio-economic kickbacks towards those who hold the power, have been a constant throughout the ages; thus, creating a culture of white privilege that is still so prevalent today. But it is not all bleak, by continuing to fight for our rights, advancements have been made and will continue to be made. As we move further into the 21st century, we can see that history is still affecting our country, but we can also see that with the emergence of a new generation of voices, we will make ourselves heard and continue our fight for equal rights in all areas. Join us on episode 2 and see how the darkness of the past, can be brightened by the small steps forward of each individual! Together as individuals, is how we make a difference.

On this episode, entitled Racism 101 -Feeding the Beast, we will look at the early beginnings of slavery and how it came to be. The effects of slavery on this new emerging country became some of the core foundations of the America we still see today. From the British supply and demand of cotton, to the forced removal of the Native population and ultimately to the enslavement of millions, created long-lasting effects. And finally, here we are at Episode 30 of the DONESON podcast! Today we will discuss Mr. Larry Page of Google. There was a time when people would counsel each other to look things up in the dictionary or encyclopedia. But now, thanks to Page and others, we just "Google it". A sign of the times for sure but perhaps also a sign of diminished critical thinking?
Google is known for being a fabulous place to work. Free meals and tons of leisure activities for its employees. Within this 21st century workplace environment, they have accomplished so much. However, there is the question of privacy for its users. With Google Chrome connecting to personal google accounts, everything and anything can be traced. Does leaving your users unprotected mark Google as a true leader or just one who is out for their own gain?
