The beating of Rodney King at the hands of police occurred  25 years ago. The aftermath was a series of events that led to the infamous L.A Riots of 1992. Since then we have seen similar, if not worse, situations occur as a result of a corrupt and unfair legal system. The Black community has rallied, rioted and tried its best to navigate through a system not designed for us, and nothing seems to have changed...or has it?

Millennials have never known a world without HIV and AIDS. They were born after the fight against the epidemic was well underway and media outlets were scurrying to find the best way to make people more aware. Shock images aimed at deterring risky behaviors were the norm and antiretrovirals that extended life for the thousands were modern breakthroughs. Yet, for some reason the epidemic is still here and Generation X is being infected at alarming rates. 

Listen in as I share the mic with a few millenials who are celebrating National Youth HIV AIDS Awareness Day (NYHAAD) with events and activities aimed at raising awareness and getting their peers involved in the fight against HIV.

There are many things that we keep secret or silent about in our families and communities. One of those things is domestic violence or intimate partner violence. When someone you love hurts you, it creates feelings of betrayal and shame. These feelings can create a shield of silence and secrecy for protection. Couple this with the pain of racism and sexism, and it can deepen this response. This can describe the black community’s reaction to domestic violence or intimate partner violence (DV/IPV). This may not be every black person’s response to DV/IPV, but there is pervasive secrecy and silence in the community that interferes with healing. **

Tune in for a very candid discussion about IPV in the Black community and what needs to be done to combat it. My special guest is Kandee Lewis from The Positive Results Corporation: A community non-profit which focuses on reducing/eliminating interpersonal violence, teen dating violence, sexual assault and bullying through teaching awareness and prevention strategies in a series of workshops and small group training.

1. Are there questions about sex you're too ashamed to ask?

2. Do you suppress your inner-freak so your sexual partner won't think you actually are a 'freak'?

3. Are you a woman who's embarrassed to admit that you've never experienced the big O?

Sex is wonderful. Unfortunately, the way it is discussed -or, better yet, not discussed- in the Black community leaves many to fend for themselves when it comes to better understanding its totality. Why is it such a taboo topic and how can we normalize the discussion?

Let's talk...our relationships depend on it.

2. Has a white person ever called you a ni--er? 

3. Have you ever been scared to be around other Blacks?

This show is going to discuss those questions and much more.

The 13th amendment, which formally abolished slavery in the United States, passed the Senate on April 8, 1864, and the House on January 31, 1865. However, most aren't aware that slavery in this country didn't officially end until Dec. 6, 1865, the day the 13th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified. Yet, over 250 years later many Blacks are still treated like property and victimized due to their skin color. 

Will the playing field ever be level or should Blacks just accustom themselves to systems that may never have their best interest at heart? Furthermore, how do these circumstances effect Black communities and the way they interact within?

A video of a sermon by gospel singer Kim Burrell went viral due to a segment that demonized gays and made negative accusations about a high-ranking religious leader. The consequences of her words were grave, even to the point of losing engagements and invitations to Hollywood events. Some say the firestorm was far too harsh; while others think it was well deserved.
