Others will stop altogether and contemplate turning around to head back. Regardless of which one you are, both need to be encouraged.

2016 has been a helluva year. Everyone has sex! Many have had risky sex. Some have contracted HIV as a result. What if I told you there was a way to reduce the chance of catching HIV by up to 90%. Would you be excited or suspicious? 

PrEP, or Pre-exposure prophylaxis is a once a day pill regimen that HIV negative people can take to prevent HIV infection. Sounds great, right? Could be a gateway to ending the epidemic, yes? Then why are so many Black and Latino gay men (who are at highest risk of infection) still in the dark about how to access it?

Rape: unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against the will usually of a female or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent.

A few years ago Jayce Baron was raped. Recently, he penned a powerful article chronicling the assault. It touched hearts and sparked much needed dialogue. One result was him being invited to speak at the Califiornia State Capital in support of a bill that would remove the statute of limitations on when rape charges can be filed. Another was a barrage of emails he received from persons who had experienced the same thing. 

Unfortunately, rape can happen to anyone at anytime. Statistically, 1 out of 10 rape victims are male. There are probably more but, due to fear of stigma and backlash, many go unreported. Join us tonight for a sensitive and powerful exchange designed to heighten awareness.

There are things that Black men in America face that other minority groups will never understand. Now add that string of problems to being gay and life can feel insurmountable. By many, Black gay men are viewed as subpar members of the Black community. The marginalization can have a negative impact on how they view themselves and their place in society. It can even hinder how they interact with other Black gay men. How does one safely navigate through that space? 

Shannon will discuss some of the obstacles young Black gay men face in terms of dating, sex, relationships (friends and family), HIV, and the daunting task of finding your social niche. It will be an enlightening conversation that all gay men -young and old- should listen to.
