The Dr. Pat Show - Talk Radio to Thrive By!

Claudia Black's bestselling classic on the experience and legacy of being raised in an addictive household.

In an all too familiar scenario, played out in millions of homes every day, children who grow up in addictive families abide by certain rules: don't talk, don't trust, don't feel. The rigid survival roles and youthful coping behaviors they take on, such as the responsible child, the adjuster, the placater, and the acting-out child can eventually contribute to problems of depression, loneliness, and addiction in adulthood.

Using poignant personal stories, thoughtful explanations, and helpful exercises, Black helps readers gain personal insights and develop new skills that lead to a healthier, happier, more fulfilling life.

While continuing to recognize alcohol as the primary addiction within families, this newly revised edition of It Will Never Happen to Me, which has sold more than two million copies, broadens concepts to include addictive disorders involving other drugs, money, food, sex, and work.

There is a concept called dualistic thinking that has to do with categorizing things in one of two ways, this OR that: as in good or bad, like or dislike, right or wrong. However, most of us have grappled with situations where the answer was more nuanced than a simple yes or no , where we ve processed emotions that were more complicated than good or bad , and where the line between right and wrong was blurred. Why? Because humans are very complex. In this show we ll be talking about the difference between dualistic and complex thinking. We will explore how learning to use our minds in more nuanced ways can be both a gift and a challenge.

With the advent of a new year, we move from the Earth element into the Water element of the Dagara cosmology. And they overlap with each during the transition. During this show, we will reflect on the expressions of both the Earth and Water elements as they show up in our psyches and our experiences. How we can make sense of the past year, and what we can set as our intention for the coming year.

Joining me in today s topic is Jen Hutchinson, PhD and a dear friend.

An Experiential Guide to the Sacred Places and Teachings of Andean Shamanism. The Andes Mountains of Peru are rich with ancient shamanic traditions, sacred places, and heart wisdom passed down from the Inca and safeguarded for generations by the Q eros nation. In this experiential guide to the wisdom and practices of the Andean people and their sacred land, Vera Lopez and Linda Star Wolf take you on an intimate journey through the sacred sites, temples, and power places of Peru, including Machu Picchu, Cuzco, Ollantaytambo, Sacsayhuamán, Písac, Lake Titicaca, and more. They show how each of these powerful sites holds ancient wisdom an initiation left behind by the Inca and they share initiatory rites and shamanic journeying practices to allow you to integrate and embody the wisdom of each sacred place.

The authors explore the cosmology and core shamanic beliefs of the Andean people, including Pachamama, the sacred law of reciprocity, the Serpent of Light, the Chakannah, and power animals such as condors, snakes, hummingbirds, and pumas. They examine healing practices and sacred plants of this tradition, including a look at the shamanic use of ayahuasca and San Pedro.

Offering direct access to the gentle heart of wisdom found within the ancient shamanic land of Peru, the authors show how the Andean shamanic tradition offers an antidote to the modern epidemic of soul loss by connecting us back to our authentic self and the universal principles of love, reciprocity, and gratitude.
