Byrd - as he's known to friends and fans alike - graduated from High School in Brooklyn and attended Community College in the Bronx. In 1986, after being transferred from Brooklyn Family Court to Manhattan Family Court, Byrd met his future TV boss, Judge Judith Sheindlin. In 1989, Byrd received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice. "Some folks graduated 'magna cum laude. I graduated 'Thank you, Lordy'".

Jamie Blaine has worked as a DJ in dive bars, roller rinks and rock and gospel stations. He's worked in mental hospitals and drug rehab centers. He's made his way through college and earned a master's degree in counselling psychology. Now he's an unconventional, and quite accidental, psychiatric crisis interventionist whose work takes him to "the least of these".

Recently Shannon has been published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Dreams and Premonitions. She was selected out of 5000 submissions. "Her Final Lesson" is about her best friend, Pitrice, who prematurely passed away at the age of nineteen and how Pitrice was able to guide Shannon through her dreams into living a more fulfilling life.
