The Earth Hotel episodes

  • Noble - Lauren Jones

My musical friend is here to tell y’all about her new album coming out on April 19, Play Place. It’s really great! We preview the song “It’s All a Dream” (call your local radio and demand it!) and take a look in her toybox of ambient amusements. Join the listening party on Bandcamp at 8pm Apr. 19 and follow her to hear and see more. Thanks everybody! Good job!

(Also Dial Alaska, John Albea’s outfit. Congratulations to the new fiancees!):

We didn’t even talk about her ding-dang musical! MASK ON THE WALL

In which I read the source text (article “Comment and Correspondence,”) and the cut-render versions of the text before translation without sound cues to indicate cuts.

Appendices A and B for NSAID Report 80-01:

A: “Notes from Paris” from source text, The Antiquarian
B: “Paris Notes”, Mark Twain, cut from A Tramp Abroad

Appendix C, operator notes, are available for free on Patreon as part of our first month of bonuses.

  • NSAID 80-1: Comment/Correspondence

Cut-up performed on 1931 article in The Antiquarian magazine, regarding that year’s Colonial Exhibition in Vincennes, France which hosted an exact replica of Mount Vernon surrounded by pavilions depicting American imperial holdings.
Cut was done in 2015, commenting on later events such as the attempted insurrection in South Korea and the 2026 Potomac Sewage spill. Extended annotation has been attempted in order to explore and trace hermeneutic possibilities across three stages of translation, resulting in a dramatic final reading of our result text.

PDF of Operator’s Report, NSAID80-01; contains photographs, all versions of text, annotations, and appendices.

  • "Bouncer See Bouncer" (Scott Walker Talk #2)

A kind message came to me which reminded me that this became unavailable when its mother episode was unlisted. Enjoy this re-visitation of Scott Walker’s (marital drama?) song about loss of some kind. I have my thoughts about what kind exactly, hypothetically. Stay around for a similar re-taking of ‘Zercon’ into one lovely chunk so we can add a second chunk after that and stay under 3 hours. With love, Jacquie.

    (Originally aired March 71/2017)

FFind “Bouncer See Bouncer” on Tilt (1997), anywhere you get music, you know that part.
I wish I still had the live recording of my version at the Firehouse; the one version before the main instrument — a glass bottle full of rusty nails taped to a long PVC pole, wobbling and jangling like a tightroper’s ballast — gave out. Maybe one day I’ll have a glass bottle again. Toodles~

  • Shawn Avery: Liminal Photographer

    00:00:00 – cursed opening
00:00:36 – Operator’s Welcome (feat – “Dead Ice,” “Ascending”, “Dirty Trip”)
    00:07:18 – Interview
01:09:14 – Through the Sparks “Meteors in Gorges”

*Instrumental tracks by Shawn Avery from Music for the Earth Hotel

It’s my esteemed joy to welcome the photographic talents and heartful brain of Shawn Avery to our desk to discuss his liminal visioncraft. There’s a crop of bountiful insights and candid questions from a curious head who came to meet this stranger out of sheer equanimity as we tour spaces real and unreal and draw in obscure angles of many more besides. Enjoy. Back again soonest.

    Shawn Avery (Averygraphic on Instagram)

Through the Sparks “Meteors in Gorges” (closing music) & We Own the Sky (Shawn’s Label and Collective)

“The lyrics were adapted from a notebook of a few abandoned ideas that “place absurdities — love and nature’s cruelty — in a world without Newtonian physics, where they make more sense,” [Shawn’s bandmate Jody] Nelson said.” [Chosen of course, on impulse for feeling, then come to find out…]

Stay close for a video edition of this episode, replete with so many linked images you’ll think you were in a cyclotron. Thanks for your patience, old and new.

Thanks to Shawn for images and the gorgeous instrumentals featured in this episode. Thanks to Mandaloregaming for the nightmares and the intro stinger-flynn.

  • From the Desk: Johnny Coley in memoriam (9IX80)

A few words in remembrance of our friend and collaborator who passed this week. Details for celebration and preservations of his work will be reported duly, but for now I share two brief writings from Johnny’s indelible chair of mind. Thanks going once twice and thrice for him, and movement onward with the Dao. I recommend checking out his work, especially his recent novel Huron from Sweet Wreath, available online and locally at hip retailers. Every word is a treasure, always has been. You can hear more of them back in our interview a few years ago. So we go.
