After the City of Edinburgh Council budget meeting on Thursday 21 February we spoke with Conservative councillor and group leader, Iain Whyte. The Tories has a plan in their alternative budget proposal to ditch the tram project and take the special dividend from Lothian the city’s bus operator, and spend that money on schools instead. Here he explains his position on Trams and what their proposal ( which was defeated by full council) would have meant.

This week the council sets its budget for spending in the coming year. They have proposed some cuts to the funding they will give to Edinburgh Leisure which is an arms length company. All will be revealed on Thursday but we spoke to the CEO to find out what she thinks about it.

Councillors will decide next week whether or not to approve the administration’s recommendations that the city introduces a Tourist Tax. The proposal is to charge overnight visitors £2 a night with a cap on seven nights. Skyrora Edinburgh’s rocket company has returned Black Arrow to Midlothian today where it will be used for educational outreach. Black Arrow was the UK’s first and only rocket to place a satellite into orbit.
