Claire is a Lecturer in Education at the University of Sydney, the co-ordinator of - Secondary Human Society and its Environment Curriculum - in the Sydney School of Education and Social Work, and a Researcher for the Culturally Nourishing Schooling project. Prior to taking up her position at the University, Claire led pedagogy, teacher learning, and innovation at independent Sydney schools.

Deborah Netolicky talks with Professor Yong Zhao about teaching, curriculum, schooling, educational leadership, and schools within schools. Yong is a Foundation Distinguished Professor in the School of Education at the University of Kansas and a professor in Educational Leadership at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education in Australia. He previously served as the Presidential Chair, Associate Dean, and Director of the Institute for Global and Online Education in the College of Education, University of Oregon, where he was also a Professor in the Department of Educational Measurement, Policy, and Leadership. Prior to Oregon, Yong Zhao was University Distinguished Professor at the College of Education, Michigan State University, where he also served as the founding director of the Center for Teaching and Technology, executive director of the Confucius Institute, as well as the US-China Center for Research on Educational Excellence. He is an elected member of the National Academy of Education and a fellow of the International Academy of Education. Yong has received numerous awards for his work on the implications of globalisation and technology on education. He has published over 100 articles and 30 books.

Deborah Netolicky talks with Fiona Hutton about search, recruitment and support of educational leaders. Fiona is an educator, executive search professional and keynote speaker. She is the founding Director of Hutton Consulting Australia and a Victorian Branch executive member of the Australian Council of Educational Leaders. Her client portfolio includes leading schools in the Independent, Government and Catholic sectors in addition to education related organisations at a system level. Fiona is actively involved in developing leadership capacity at Senior and Executive levels through bespoke PD programs, individual career conversations, 360 degree reviews and constructive feedback from search processes. She was nominated for Telstra Business Woman of the Year (2019) and was a finalist (2020, 2021) in the small business category.

Deborah Netolicky talks with Dr Karen Edge about leadership, diversity, kindness and education workplaces. Karen is a Reader in Educational Leadership at University College London. Before joining UCL, Karen worked in senior advisory roles for the Ontario Minister of Education and the Centre for Educational Leadership at UC-Santa Barbara. She also worked as a Research Fellow at the World Bank in Washington DC. Karen leads the Global City Leaders Project working with 60+ Generation X school leaders in London, New York and Toronto to understand how their careers, leadership and future aspirations may influence future of urban and national education systems. Karen consults domestically and internationally for organisations on a range of strategy, leadership and research topics.

Deborah Netolicky talks with Dr Christine Grice about decentring leadership, leading the child, and leading together. Christine a Senior Lecturer in Educational Leadership, and postgraduate coordinator of the Master of Education Programs at the University of Sydney. Christine’s research is centred in the practices of educational leadership with a focus on leading pedagogy in schools and systems. Christine is passionate about supporting educators to connect theory, philosophy, and practice for purposeful leading in her teaching, research, and service to the education community. She works with school and system leaders at all levels on research and professional learning partnerships that seek to understand more about leading together. Christine brings almost 30 years of educational leadership and research experience in the government and the non-government sector in both Australia and the UK at early childhood, primary, secondary, and tertiary level to her work. She has over a decade of leadership experience in schools, and has held previous appointments as head of school, deputy head and director of curriculum.

Deborah Netolicky talks with Dr Simon Breakspear about implementing change in schools and education systems. Simon is a researcher, advisor and speaker on educational leadership, policy and change. He develops frameworks and tools that make evidence-based ideas actionable and easy to understand. Over the last decade his capability building work has given him the opportunity to work with over 100,000 educators across more than 10 countries. Simon is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at UNSW. He serves as an advisor to the NSW Department of Education and sits on an expert steering committee for the Australia Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). Simon began his work in education as a high school teacher.

Deborah Netolicky talks with Dr Jill Berry about leading in schools, including principalship and ‘making the leap’ to being a school head. Jill taught for thirty years in six different schools, both state and independent, and was a head for the last ten years of her time in schools. She has also taught at GCSE and A-Level in the evenings for several years. Since then, Jill completed a doctorate that explored the transition into headship, wrote a book about it, ‘Making The Leap: Moving from Deputy to Head’, and carried out an extensive range of leadership development work. She has also given a TEDx presentation on the subject ‘Take a Second Look: Bring Out the Best in Yourself and Others’, and has published three short novels.

Deborah Netolicky talks with Professor Rachel Lofthouse about mentoring and coaching in education. Rachel is Professor of Teacher Education in the Carnegie School of Education at Leeds Beckett University, and the Director of CollectiveED: The Centre for Mentoring, Coaching and Professional Learning. She has been an educator for more than 30 years, including as a Geography teacher, a teacher educator, and a researcher. Her research focuses on professional learning, especially how teachers learn and how they can be supported to put that learning into practice. Rachel works with student teachers and their school-based mentors, teacher coaches, postgraduate students and school leaders as well as a range of educational practitioners, including those interested in community curriculum development and professional coaching for speech and language support in multicultural early years and primary settings. She encourages professionals to find practices through which they can build their workplace expertise while developing critical reflection and their ability to contribute to, and draw productively on, the knowledge base for teaching and learning. Rachel has published in peer-reviewed journals on the subjects of coaching and mentoring, the innovative use of video to support practice development, practitioner enquiry and professional learning.

Deborah Netolicky talks with Professor Pat Thomson about school leadership and arts-rich education. Pat is a Professor of Education at the University of Nottingham; the University of South Australia, and Deakin University. She is on a number of editorial boards, is Convenor of the Centre for Research in Arts, Creativity and Literacy, and is author of the academic writing blog ‘patter’ which is archived by the British Library and followed by academics around the world. Prior to taking up her role as an academic in the UK, Pat was principal of Paralowie School for eleven years, deputy principal at The Parks, and founding Coordinator of Bowden Brompton Community School. She has represented Australian principals on national policy making bodies and at international conferences, and was President of the South Australian Secondary Principals Association. She is a Fellow of the UK Academy of Social Science and the Royal Society of Arts, and has won numerous awards, including a Public Service Medal, a Fulbright Scholarship, and the Garth Boomer Curriculum prize from the Australian Curriculum Studies Association.
