Lent is the time when individuals reflect on their relationship with God, and the idea of salvation is given meaning through Jesus' journey to the cross. But what if salvation is not just an individual concept, but is meant for a much larger plan?

There is a fascination in our society with leaders and power, and obsession to place people on pedestals and also to knock them off. Through one story of a prophet's dealings with power and authority we learn the meaning and ability of trust, its limitations and the strength for great change.

As a parent teaches and disciplines a child, so we discover that learning comes through experience. As the children of Israel began their journey to become a nation dedicated to God, they needed to discover that their wants kept them from seeing what God was leading them toward.

It is easy to look and accept things and ideas because they look or sound attractive, or because they come some a seemingly trustworthy source. But do we truly know the effect they can have in our lives upon acceptance? A miraculous event witnessed by the disciples shows the importance of examining the things in our world through the understanding of the cross and resurrection.
