All Saints Day is a day of remembrance in the church for those Christians who have gone ahead of us into glory, and of the common faith that Christians across all time have shared. But it is also a day of reflection of the faith they had that brought them through life, and of the faith necessary for us to do the same.

We struggle and strive to learn, discover, and understand the mercy of God. But have we actually experienced that mercy in our lives? Through a Catholic prayer called The Divine Mercy Chaplet, there is an opportunity to purposefully position ourselves and open ourselves to the mercy surrounding and open to us in this moment.

The month of October is Pastor Appreciation month, and to mark this we are starting a new series from the letter of 2 Timothy. What makes a pastor, what sustains them, what should you look for in someone who claims to speak for God? In this part one of four we explore the meaning and importance of passion in the ministry.

In such a fast-paced world there is so much distraction, yet we are still called to celebrate God in the smallest moments. St. Paul reminds us of the dangers such distractions present, and the discipline required not to be sucked in by false promises and see the truth of life that is presented to us.

Building a church and maintaining a ministry are all works in progress, there is a constant effort to build and unite people together for a purpose. But St. Paul shares the most important tool for operating a community of faith, as well as keeping a healthy Christian life.

But as Christians how do we respond to such evil acts and evil people, is there an appropriate response to such individuals? We learn from one called the 'worst of sinners' about how deep and far the mercy of God reaches into all circumstances.

In reading one of the shortest of the New Testament letters, we gain an experience into how the early church appreciated and relied on the teachings of the apostles for guidance. And almost 2000 years later there is still a reliance and need, even if we might think the situations we face are much different then our ancient faith ancestors.
