This week I am joined by the ever inspiring generational healer, super mom, motherhood educator, decolonizer of spirituality, and apothecary Assata Dela Cruz!!! Assata shares her story about starting off her spiritual journey in very white, Wiccan spaces and how having her daughter inspired her to connect more with her rich Yoruba and Chahta ancestry and culture. Through this process she found power to demystify her ancestral practices and use them to decolonize white dominated spaces like the cottagecore movement. She not only does this important healing work for her daughter and family, but talks about how she has brought these generationally healing ideas to her business and community to help others feel empowered by their own story and ancestry.
ABOUT ASSATA AND COTTAGECORE RISING:
Owned by Assata Dela Cruz, Cottagecore Rising is an apothecary deeply rooted in fostering community through the appreciation and application of Yoruba and Chahta ancestral wisdom. In addition to organic herbs, extracts and oils for purchase, there are bi-weekly classes and workshops on holistic living, as well as private and group Bhakti yoga classes. Recognizing that sacred healing begins in the womb, Assata also offers holistic birth and postpartum support as a doula, breastfeeding counselor and childbirth educator.
Cottagecore is a movement fostering the idea of living a simple rural lifestyle. Inspired by cultivating this simple life in harmony with nature, Cottagecore Rising was created with the intention of fostering a passionate spirit of resistance within the wellness community. In rising against our current consumerist society, we can return to a world that values radical self care.
