A quick venture through many A's this day 

I enjoyed learning that people had researched and looked into the Abominal Snowman and to learn abracadabra had a history and was not just always a magical chanting phrase.  

I chose Absalom because there is a famous book called Absalom, Absalom but the entry gave me no real idea what the book could be about.

John Jacob Abel - U.S. Pharmacologist: such things as isolating adrenaline, isolating insulin in crystal forms, and so much more.  So many of these things are still the backbone of medicine today.

Niels Henrik Abel - Norwegian mathematician whose life was shorter than the rest but who accomplished so much he occupied over half a page on his own 

I was really touched by how often was mentioned his friend Crelle who was really invested in trying to help promote Abel's work.  

Having wanted to learn more about Abelian theory I found he had a recent birthday yesterday 9/5 and is still being celebrated today.  It would have been his 224th birthday.  

While down at the creek with friends from school and our kids we began to wonder if leeches were in fact in the water.  We consistently told the kids no and then found out yes in fact they do live there though we probably did not see them because the ones that live there are the size of a grain of rice.

I really like today's mix.  I always wonder as I'm reading if these are people learned about in the countries that they're famous in - or in art classes.  

This is going to be a long one and I only made it half-way through the introduction.  I actually wanted to share this because it begins with a beautiful explanation of why we label and name things, and it's not because that determines its identity if anything it's a poor way to identify something.  It's for the sake of us communicating about it.

My dictionary arrived yesterday, it is yet to be opened. I really wish I had since there were many words I could have looked up.  Axil appeared many times and each time I wish I could know exactly what it meant.

I look up perennial, venture to its neighbor pere david's deer, and then somehow make my way back to the A's since I read more quickly than I knew before: abalone, abandonment, abatement.  

I was pretty disappointed in the shortness of perennial - I wouldn't have minded some niche information, and 2/3 of the section was an explanation of its counterparts annuals and biennials.  

I love gardening.  If I could be outside gardening all the time I think I would, though I might enjoy being in a place that had more rain yearlong.  There is no lushness where I live, it's a chaparral I believe - my mind is reaching back to high school for that word.  I like perennials the best because when I see a flower come back after it has disappeared for a year or receded, and it blooms again bigger or just blooms at all it reminds me how hardworking all of the things around us really are.
