This week we are joined by Dylan Nortje.

Dylan is a Saffa triathlete, mostly known for his 21st place at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. In today’s episode Dylan tells us about how he got in to the sport, about his struggles with mental health during Covid, and what got him on top of things again, about Commie Games, and about his recent switch to long course racing (including being coached by Brad Weiss).
Dylan shares some great stories from his time in the sport, and a brief glimpse in to what’s in store for his next races. What an amazing chat, with an amazing athlete!

May 12, 2025 Connor Mercer on 3am run sessions to balance being a medical doctor and a top AG athlete!
This week we are joined by top SA long distance AG athlete Connor Mercer.

Connor is a medical doctor, currently doing his community service year in rural Eastern Cape, where he walks a tightrope balancing a very busy job in a place without heaps of triathlon facilities, and racing at the front pack of age-group racing.
We chat about some of the crazy sessions he’s done in his time to accommodate his work and competitive racing, including a 3am long run. We speak about how Connor managed to train for Ironman NMB without direct access to a pool, yet still managed a 2nd place in his AG. He tells us about his connection to Italy, and how he went 8:42 over the full distance there last year.

March 24, 2025 Magda Nieuwoudt - A stellar 2023 year, injuries, and training for a COMEBACK at Ironman South Africa!
This week we are joined by Saffa long distance pro Magda Nieuwoudt.

Magda had a breakthrough race at Ironman Nelson Mandela Bay in 2022, and followed it up with a stellar year in 2023 with a 66% win rate, taking home the Challenge Family World Bonus. However, injuries derailed her 2024 year. She was essentially out of the running for nearly the whole year. But she is BACK! And ready to go. She will be lining up at Ironman Nelson Mandela Bay.
Magda came on to the podcast to chat about her come up in the sport, her stellar 2022/2023 years, her injuries, and how her preparation is going towards the big dance.
This was an amazing chat, with lots of insider tips for the race in Gqeberha, lots of laughs, and a few good lessons to race well over the full distance.

March 17, 2025 Rasmus Svenningson - Winning IM Nelson Mandela Bay, foregoing aero for enjoyment, and 350 W for 4 hours
This week we are joined by the Ironman Nelson Mandela Bay defending champion.
7 years ago, in 2018, Rasmus Svenningson, had his first full distance age group win at the Ironman Nelson Mandela Bay. Since then, he’s gone on the race in Gqeberha several times, leading to his eventual overall win (now as a professional athlete) last year in 2024. Rasmus has returned to South Africa to acclimate to the weather, and experience the Saffa vibes ahead of this years 20th anniversary edition.
He came on the pod to chat about his rise through the ranks, his INSANE 4 hour power, how he has foregone potential aerodynamic gains for more enjoyment, his race win last year, and of course his expectations going in to this year.

This was a great chat with an amazing pro athlete, and just as good a human being.
