D'Shonda Brown currently serves as the Associate Editor of ESSENCE's Girls United. As a Brooklyn native and Spelman College alumna with a BA in English, D'Shonda has a deep - rooted appreciation for Black women, culture, hip-hop, and style. A suicide attempt survivor, rape survivor, and mental health advocate, D'Shonda 's mission is to be a voice for the voiceless, have tough conversations through her writing and destigmatize negative connotations through her work.
