  • The 42cast Episode 289: Fun & Games ‘Till Someone Loses an Eye

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds returned for it’s third season last year. The season wrapped up the cliffhanger from season 2 and catapulted the cast into scenarios both farcical and horrific. In this episode we take a look at the season as a whole. We discuss whether the shenanigans have gone too far. We debate whether the Gorn resolution felt satisfactory. We talk about the horrific elements and how well they integrated into the story as a whole. We also get into what we’d like to see from season 4.

The five-minute controversy this week asks if we agree with Brannon Braga that modern Trek is too steeped in modern vernacular.

This week Stephanie is cohost and Ryan, Nate, and Ashley join the cast.

    Show Notes:
Brannon Braga’s Complaints Regarding New Trek

  • Why are there Sharks on the Moon | Earth Station Boo

The USSR developed unkillable sharks. They launched them at the moon. And somehow that got made into a movie with a $10,000 budget and we watched every single second of it so you don’t have to… or so you absolutely will want to. Karen and Tea dive deep into Shark Side of the Moon, the 2022 Asylum production that is equal parts sci-fi, horror, Cold War paranoia, and pure unhinged chaos. They break down the plot, the CGI, the shark human hybrids who speak Russian, the ending that defies the laws of physics, and ask the truly important questions…  is this actually horror? Is this actually cinema? And does it matter when there are sharks on the moon?

(Remember Laverne, Shirley, and everyone they knew all moved together from Milwaukee to Los Angeles?) Mork and Mindy! (Remember when Mork gave birth to a weird old man?) And Blansky’s Beauties/Who’s Watching the Kids! (What?) And yeah, we’re just getting started. If you can’t stand the excitement, just have Fonzie whack your phone and stop the podcast.
