This week we shine a spotlight on the timekeepers of the band, the heartbeat of the music, the THUNDER from the back of the stage …. it’s all about those DRUMS!! Stephanie, Alan, Rob and Anthony each select five songs that begin with unaccompanied drum intros that we love. And the selections couldn’t be more varied — rock, pop, punk, classic jazz, electronic, Britpop to an all-out metal assault!
Let us know what drummers you love and some songs that begin with solo drums that you wish we would have mentioned. There are a million of them! Drop us a line at [email protected] or just leave a comment on our socials or whatever podcast platform you’re listening to us.

Silo is a post-apocalyptic series on Apple TV starring Rebecca Ferguson and based on the Silo book series by Hugh Howey. Ferguson plays Juliette Nichols an engineer turned sheriff who’s pursuit of the truth in criminal investigations leads her to search for the truth about the history and world that she lives in. In this episode we review the first two seasons of the series. We discuss the setting of the Silo and why it’s different from similar series that we’ve seen. We talk about the characters and performances and how we feel about Ferguson in the main role. We also get into the plot and ask questions that we want to see answers to and mention some things that we don’t think makes sense.
The five-minute controversy this week asks if we agree with Henry Gilroy that it was a mistake to make Sabine a Jedi in the Ahsoka TV series.
This week Stephanie, Juliette, and Ashley join the cast.
Show Notes:
Henry Gilroy calls Sabine being a Jedi in Ahsoka a “mistake”.

We’re watching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 3, Episode 4 “Rajiin,” but only Maria has actually watched the episode. While looking for a way to manufacture the space asbestos that will protect them from the weird anomalies, Archer “rescues” a beautiful and mysterious slave girl. In keeping with his taste in women, she turns out to be spying for the Xindi (at least she wasn’t actually a slug?) to get information about human physiology to help them build a bioweapon. Oh, and Trip and T’Pol nearly blow up the ship and themselves trying to manufacture trellium-D.
Special guest Jim Tigwell joins us and since he knows absolutely nothing about Enterprise at all, we have to try to explain this mayhem to him.

Last week we reviewed Sinners. Now we need to talk about what it MEANS. Karen and Spilled Tea return to Ryan Coogler’s genre defining horror masterpiece for a deep dive into its cultural significance with our friend Michael W. Collins. We cover the sacred roots of the blues, what the vampires are REALLY representing, why the juke joint matters more than you think, and what it means for horror to be the one telling this story right now. From Robert Johnson’s crossroads mythology to the music industry’s long history of cultural theft to Sinners place in the Black horror canon. This is the conversation the film was made to start.

Flopcast episode 737! Our series of Wizard of Oz adaptation reviews brings us to 1978’s The Wiz, an ambitious reimagining with an all-star all-Black cast led by the great Diana Ross. Also featuring: Richard Pryor, Lena Horne, Nipsey Russell, Mabel King, graffiti Munchkins, crow monsters, poppy girls, and way more long slow musical numbers than anyone really wanted. (Seriously, they could have cut the running time in half with no complaints.) Can Emerald City survive the disco era? Perhaps. Just barely. #wizardofoz #thewiz #dianaross #esonetwork #eso #geektalk #geekpodcast #geek #nerdtalk #nerd #nerdpodcast #podcast #flopcast
